LAMORINDA WEEKLY | Letters to the Editor Published July 8th, 2009 Letters to the Editor Editor, It was good to read your article on Aaron Poreda making it to the show and his Campolindo background. I wish him much success in his baseball career and will be rooting for him. In the article you indicate that he became the second player in Campolindo High School history to play professional baseball. Actually, Campolindo has a storied baseball history. In the l980's they were league champions in '80-'81-'82-'83-'84-'85-'87 & '88. They were North Coast Champions in 1988 when teams from all divisions played for one championship. That l988 team was also voted the #1 team in the East Bay and the #1 3A team in the state by Cal Hi Sports. A number of players from the l980's and '90's went on to play college and professional baseball. In l983 Ron Delucci was the #7 overall pick by the Pittsburg Pirates in the Major League draft. Dave Carley, a pitcher, was drafted in the 8th round. Chip Hale, Paul Faries & Steve Erickson went on the college from that team and all played professional ball. Hale got a World Series ring playing for the Minnesota Twins and is currently the third base coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Faries played in the big leagues for the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants. From the 1988 team a number of players were chosen to play professional baseball including Steve Bishop, Mike McDermott, Sean O'Connell, Jeff Scarpitti, Mike Harrison and Jon Zuber.

February 26, 2021 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama are voting to form a union with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network. Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies. Deadline Amazon accepts unions for entertainment workers, and we believe warehouse workers deserve the same respect in the workplace. We strongly urge all Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer to VOTE UNION YES. MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AS THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF CONTENT HAVE INCREASED in what is widely regarded as television’s second Golden Age, so have employment opportunities for the talented men and women who create that programming. And as our industry, and the content we produce, have become more relevant, so has the relevance of the Television Academy increased as an essential resource for television professionals. In 2015, this was reflected in the steady rise in our membership — surpassing 20,000 for the first time in our history — as well as the expanding slate of Academy-sponsored activities and the heightened attention paid to such high-profile events as the Television Academy Honors and, of course, the Creative Arts Awards and the Emmy Awards. Navigating an industry in the midst of such profound change is both exciting and, at times, a bit daunting. Reimagined models of production and distribution — along with technological innovations and the emergence of new over-the-top platforms — have led to a seemingly endless surge of creativity, and an array of viewing options. As the leading membership organization for television professionals and home to the industry’s most prestigious award, the Academy is committed to remaining at the vanguard of all aspects of television. Toward that end, we are always evaluating our own practices in order to stay ahead of industry changes, and we are proud to guide the conversation for television’s future generations.

Journal of Ethnic and Cultural Studies Copyright 2020 2020, Vol. 7, No. 3, 142-162 ISSN: 2149-1291 http://dx.doi.org/10.29333/ejecs/392 Racism’s Back Door: A Mixed-Methods Content Analysis of Transformative Sketch Comedy in the US from 1960-2000 Jennifer Kim1 Independent Scholar, USA Abstract: Comedy that challenges race ideology is transformative, widely available, and has the potential to affect processes of identity formation and weaken hegemonic continuity and dominance. Outside of the rules and constraints of serious discourse and cultural production, these comedic corrections thrive on discursive and semiotic ambiguity and temporality. Comedic corrections offer alternate interpretations overlooked or silenced by hegemonic structures and operating modes of cultural common sense. The view that their effects are ephemeral and insignificant is an incomplete and misguided evaluation. Since this paper adopts Hegel’s understanding of comedy as the spirit (Geist) made material, its very constitution, and thus its power, resides in exposing the internal thought processes often left unexamined, bringing them into the foreground, dissecting them, and exposing them for ridicule and transformation. In essence, the work of comedy is to consider all points of human processing and related structuration as fair game. The phenomenological nature of comedy calls for a micro-level examination. Select examples from The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour (1968), The Richard Pryor Show (1977), Saturday Night Live (1990), and Chappelle’s Show (2003) will demonstrate representative ways that comedy attacks and transforms racial hegemony. Keywords: comedy, cultural sociology, popular culture, race and racism, resistance. During periods of social unrest, what micro-level actions are available to the public? Or, how does a particular society respond to inequities that are widely shared and agreed upon as intolerable aspects of a society? One popular method to challenge a hegemonic structure, and to survive it, is comedy.

  • OCTOBER 2008 New Type of Technology
© AMSOIL INC 2008 OCTOBER 2008 new type of technology. Bobby had never heard of synthetic lubrication, but he gave me a call. To make a long story short, he explained his problem and I sent him some oil that I was convinced would work. That oil had more film strength than any other oil on the market at the time. Well, it did work. Bobby went from repairing his gears after virtually every run to absolutely no maintenance at all. He now made it through all his practice runs, qualifying runs and race day with the same set of gears. Plus, that same rear end made it through the entire next year. Bobby Unser had become a true believer in AMSOIL, and, I might add, somewhat of a lubrication expert himself. He had seen firsthand how a lubricant could, in fact, make a difference in winning or losing. Those who have had the pleasure of meeting Bobby Unser at one of our AMSOIL functions will attest to his commitment to our products. He uses only AMSOIL lubes in his cars, trucks and motor home, and he has a 40-year-old tractor that has had only one oil change many years ago. I keep telling him to change the oil in that thing, but he tells me not to worry. “Al,” he says, “I change the filters regularly, so why throw away good oil? That stuff you make lasts forever.” With dedication like Bobby’s, it’s no wonder we chose him to be our spokesman for the commercials we filmed for our Championship Off Road Racing (CORR) sponsorship.

While this film is valuable on its own, the guide is instrumental in effectively covering all areas surrounding opioid use and abuse, particularly the mandates given by Governor Kasich in 2016 for all schools serving students in grades 6-12. This film began initially as a conversation between Amy Clark, Board President of SGEF and John Tharp, Lucas County Sheriff, in 2015 as an idea about how to combat what was quickly becoming one of the deadliest issues the state of Ohio has seen; overdose deaths largely due to addiction to opioids. Today, at the time of this print, the state of Ohio leads the nation in accidental overdose deaths with no end in sight.

  • If You Really Knew Me Activities
AN INTRODUCTORY GUIDE TO USING THE “IF YOU REALLY KNEW ME” ACTIVITY CREATED BY CHALLENGE DAY a guide for parents, teachers, young people and other people desiring more connected relationships Separation, isolation and loneliness are enormous challenges for any human being. For young people, however, these feelings can be devastating to physical and mental health, leading many down the paths of self-harm, addiction, bullying or violence. Under these conditions, academic learning becomes virtually impossible. What causes separation, this profound feeling of loneliness and isolation that so many of our adolescents struggle with daily? The answer is simple....FEAR. It is one thing to know a person’s title, accomplishments, successes or “image.” It is entirely different to connect to their humanity, to learn the intimate details about them that you would know if you really knew them. Many people are so afraid of getting vulnerable or, as we say at Challenge Day, “getting real,” that they end up settling for superficial relationships and conversations rather than risking the possibility of sharing more personally, and then perhaps being rejected. People often compare their “insides” to other people’s “outsides,” and relate image-to-image rather than heart-to-heart. As a result, many of us spend our lives feeling separate and alone. -from “Be The Hero You’ve Been Waiting For,” p.49 by Yvonne and Rich Dutra-St.John What if the solution to the challenges of separation, isolation and loneliness was as simple as taking a couple of minutes each day to connect with those people around us? Students are surrounded by others constantly, usually spending more time with their peers and teachers than with their own families.
