R. M. Bateman, Pridgeon & M. W. Chase subsp. fragrans (Pollini), Anacamptis pyramidalis (L.) R. Ophrys holosericea (Burm.) Greuter and Serapias vomeracea (Burm. f.) B. were isolated by steam distillation and analyzed by GC/FID and GC/MS. Saturated hydrocarbons were quantified as the major constituents of the volatile fraction (47.87–81.57% of the total essential oil), of which long-chain monounsaturated hydrocarbons accounted from 9.20% to 32.04% of the total essential oil. Double bond position in linear alkenes was highlighted by dimethyl disulfide derivatization and MS fragmentation. Aldehydes (from 3.45 to 18.18% of the total essential oil), alcohols (from 0.19% to 13.48%), terpenes (from 0.98 to 2.50%) and acids (0.30 to 2.57%) were also detected. -

It is largely the fruit of many pleasant hours of botanising by the author and a few others and as such reflects their particular interests. History of Plant Recording Peeblesshire is thinly populated and has had few resident botanists to record its flora. Also its upland terrain held little in the way of dramatic features or geology to attract outside botanists. Consequently the first list of the county’s flora with any pretension to completeness only became available in 1925 with the publication of the History of Peeblesshire (Eds, JW Buchan and H Paton). For this FRS Balfour and AB Jackson provided a chapter on the county’s flora which included a list of all the species known to occur. The first records were made by Dr A Pennecuik in 1715. He gave localities for 30 species and listed 8 others, most of which are still to be found. Thereafter for some 140 years the only evidence of interest is a few specimens in the national herbaria and scattered records in Lightfoot (1778), Watson (1837) and The New Statistical Account (1834-45). -

Washington Flora Checklist A checklist of the Vascular Plants of Washington State Hosted by the University of Washington Herbarium The Washington Flora Checklist aims to be a complete list of the native and naturalized vascular plants of Washington State, with current classifications, nomenclature and synonymy. The checklist currently contains 3,929 terminal taxa (species, subspecies, and varieties). Taxa included in the checklist: * Native taxa whether extant, extirpated, or extinct. * Exotic taxa that are naturalized, escaped from cultivation, or persisting wild. * Waifs (e.g., ballast plants, escaped crop plants) and other scarcely collected exotics. * Interspecific hybrids that are frequent or self-maintaining. * Some unnamed taxa in the process of being described. Family classifications follow APG IV for angiosperms, PPG I (J. Syst. Evol. 54:563?603. 2016.) for pteridophytes, and Christenhusz et al. (Phytotaxa 19:55?70. 2011.) for gymnosperms, with a few exceptions. Nomenclature and synonymy at the rank of genus and below follows the 2nd Edition of the Flora of the Pacific Northwest except where superceded by new information. Grupo de investigación en fitoquímica (GIFUJ) RESUMEN Los hongos patógenos de plantas representan grandes pérdidas para el sector floricultor y su tratamiento se ha visto limitado debido a la toxicidad de los fungicidas y al desarrollo de mecanismos de resistencia por parte de los patógenos. Los metabolitos secundarios de las plantas se han estudiado como una potencial alternativa para su tratamiento debido a su efectividad como sustancias antimicrobianas, particularmente dentro de la familia Asteraceae, la tribu Senecioneae se ha mostrado como un grupo potencial para la búsqueda de metabolitos secundarios con actividad biológica. Por lo tanto, el propósito de esta revisión es recopilar los estudios disponibles de actividad antifúngica para la tribu Senecioneae con el fin de identificar potenciales compuestos para la investigación en fungicidas naturales aplicables a fitopatógenos de cultivos de flores. Palabras clave: Asteraceae, Senecioneae, metabolitos secundarios, fitoquímica, aceites esenciales, monoterpenos, sesquiterpenos, alcaloides pirrolizidínicos, actividad antifúngica, fitopatógenos. INTRODUCCIÓN Las plantas son susceptibles a una gran variedad de agentes bióticos que pueden afectar su crecimiento, desarrollo y reproducción. Dentro de estos, los hongos patógenos tienen la capacidad de infectar tejidos como la raíz y el tallo, dificultando el transporte de agua y nutrientes, o las hojas, impidiendo procesos de intercambio gaseoso y fotosíntesis (Struck 2006). Debido a que estos patógenos pueden atacar plantas de interés económico como los cultivos de flores y generar grandes pérdidas (Cámara de Comercio de Bogotá 2015), los productores acuden a estrategias rápidas y sencillas para su tratamiento como la aplicación y rotación de fungicidas sobre los cultivos (Lesmes-Fabian & Binder 2013). -

Coeloglossum), Gymnadenia (incl. Nigritella) and Pseudorchis were examined by light microscope and SEM. Qualitative and quantitative characters were analyzed. In Dactylorhiza, the seeds are fusiform, but some populations of D. viridis show clavate seeds. According to the ornamentation of the periclinal walls, 3 types of seeds are recognized in this genus. The considerable variation in the seed coat ornamentation pattern in the taxa belonging to majalis, maculata, and praetermissa groups of the genus Dactylorhiza is congruent with the genetic processes that occurred during the history of this genus. Gymnadenia shows clavate seeds with stout and straight to slightly curved anticlinal walls, although these are straight to wavy in some taxa considered previously as Nigritella. These taxa also show low values of seed length. Pseudorchis has fusiform seeds without ornamentation in the periclinal walls and fine anticlinal walls. -

DELFORGE, P. - The robust Vanilla Orchid of the Mount Cenis (Savoy, France). New genetic data and personnal field research have led to reconsider the taxonomic status of Gymnadenia (Nigritella) cenisia, a robust diploid Vanilla Orchid described from Mt. Cenis in 1998. The distinction of G. cenisia from G. rhellicani (= Nigritella nigra s.l. auct. pl.) is difficult. The two taxa are syntopic, their flowering times overlap widely as well as all the characters considered as diagnostic by authors’ description, i.e. flowers colour, lip opening, plant height, leaves number, and flowers number. Consequently, the two published keys integrating G. cenisia do not work on the field and numerous individuals are not attributable to one or to the other taxon. Observations of intrapopulational variation in 1999 and 2002, comparison of populations from Mt. Cenis (France) with one G. rhellicani population from Mt. Falakron (Northern Greece), and recent publishing of allozyme data used to estimate levels of variation inside the Vanilla Orchids have shown that G. cenisia is very probably a part of the continuous variation of G. rhellicani. To take into account the unusualy large inflorescence and the general robustness of some G. rhellicani around the Mt. Cenis, G. rhellicani var. robusta (var. nova) is described here. A list of 14 localities of G. rhellicani var. robusta, prospected in July 1999 and 2002, is given. Key-Words. Orchidaceae, genus Gymnadenia; Nigritella nigra s.l. -

NeoBiota 17: 19–37. doi: 10.3897/neobiota.17.4217 Abstract Gardening is a popular pastime, but commercial horticulture is responsible for the introduction of alien species and contributes to invasions in a variety of ways. Although an extensive international literature is available on plant invasions, it is still important at the national level to examine the influence of local factors. Accordingly, 17 nurseries in Estonia that cultivated and sold perennial alien species were selected, and a list of species and prices was compiled. The relationships between species status, and factors such as their abundance in the wild were examined statistically. A qualitative list of the nationally problematic species among herbaceous perennials was also completed. A total of 880 taxa were recorded, of which 10.3% were native and 89.7% alien. In all, 87.3% of the alien species were still confined to cultivated areas.
