Paradores De Turismo Discovering Spain Galicia - luxury hotel - Parador Vilalba - pilgrimage - Santiago de Compostela - South of France - Spain cathedral - Spain museum - special offer - Way of Saint James A Pilgrim’s Home Away From Home Friday, 12 July, 2013 Paradores Parador de Vilalba Many people are interested in walking The Way of Saint James, which is a pilgrimage that takes you through the beautiful Galician countryside. Right now, there is a special offer at Parador Vilalba for those who are walking The Way of Saint James. This fantastic special offer includes one night at the beautiful Spanish luxury hotel and a delicious buffet breakfast. The Parador will also store your bicycles if you happen to be doing The Way by bike. It will also give you complimentary tickets to visit the Parador Museum. Parador Vilalba Parador Vilalba Parador Vilalba is located in a spectacular 15th century medieval tower. This striking tower, which looms over the town, is the central point of the Parador. There are six rooms located in the tower and the magnificent “Salon de los Andrade.” All the rooms boast a medieval atmosphere, where coats of arms and murals take you back in time. The Parador’s restaurant serves international cuisine and of course some of the gastronomic specialities of this part of Galicia. The more important local dishes you should try are: savoury pork and potato pie, and cooked pork with chopped turnips. Galicia is famous for its seafood, so you should order the octopus dishes. The most typical Galician octopus dish consists of slices of boiled octopus with boiled potatoes, olive oil, salt and paprika sprinkled on top. Pilgrims should also try the Christmas season special capon dish. There are quite a few places to visit within an hour’s car drive from Vilalba. The city of Santiago de Compostela is the final destination for pilgrims following The Way of Saint James. Its magnificent Cathedral contains the tomb of the apostle Saint James, after whom The Way is named. On any given day, the city is brimming with pilgrims, who are tired but content to have completed such an amazing journey. Many guests also drive out to the nearby fishing harbours of Foz, Ribadeo, Burela Mino and Vivero. The Way of Saint James This fantastic pilgrimage, called the Camino de Santiago in Spanish, can be done walking, on horseback, or by bike. There are some different paths pilgrims take, but the most popular one starts in the village of Roncesvalles in the south of France and takes one month to walk. You will see beautiful scenery and try delicious culinary specialities from the different regions you will visit. What dish are you going to sample first?.

PALABRAS CLAVE: RECURSOS MARINOS, PESCA, MARISQUEO, EPOCA ROMANA, CASTRO, GALICIA ABSTRACT: This paper focuses on the shellfish and fish remains recovered at the Punta Atalaia site (Galicia, Spain). Their analysis allows us to evaluate the exploitation of marine resources in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula during Roman Times. Certain continuity with operating models defined for pre-Roman periods is found during the first occupation phase of this hillfort (1st century AD). However, data analysis for later times (2nd-5th centuries AD) indicates a greater complexity that may respond to an increasing market demand for these products and to an im- proved fishing and shellfishing gear.

The routes from the old Kingdom of Asturias were the first to take the pilgrims to Santiago. The coastal route was as busy as the other, older pilgrims’ ways long before the Spanish monarchs proclaimed the French Way to be the ideal route, and provided a link for the Christian kingdoms in the North of the Iberian Peninsula. This endorsement of the French Way did not, however, bring about the decline of the Asturian and Galician pilgrimage routes, as the stretch of the route from León to Oviedo enjoyed even greater popularity from the late 11th century onwards. The Northern Route is not a local coastal road for the sole use of the Asturians living along the Alfonso II the Chaste. shoreline. This medieval route gave rise to an Liber Testamenctorum (s. XII). internationally renowned current, directing Oviedo Cathedral archives pilgrims towards the sanctuaries of Oviedo and Santiago de Compostela, perhaps not as well- travelled as the the French Way, but certainly bustling with activity until the 18th century.

The common features of Green Spain are a mild, humid climate with areas of remaining untouched natural beauty. The crafts, traditional cuisine, music and dance accompanying the local fairs deeply rooted in each of the historical regions of Green Spain. It would be a big mistake to imagine Green Spain as a huge extension of pastures, here the visitor will discover rugged mountain scenery in the Picos de Europa and the rural scenery, relaxing silence, and abundance of attractions in Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia.
