NDO County Updates County – Dorset Date NDO County Updates County – Dorset Date – For meeting 3.3.17 Overview England Netball Development Officer sections and priorities of the County Plan 2.1. Playing the Game Schools 2.2 Playing the Game Clubs 2.3/2.4 Playing the Game HE/FE 2.5 Playing the Game Community 4. Competition + Events 5/6/7 Workforce, Volunteering, Coaching, Officiating 2.1. Playing the Game Schools (Hi5 workshops, school games, primary affiliation.) The H5 School Games final will take place on 3rd April at SDE, Bournemouth. There appears to be sufficient interest for another H5 workshop so I am looking into this possibility. 2.2 Playing the Game Clubs (New Junior Clubs U11 & 11+, CAPS, Satellite Clubs, B2N Clubs,) Peeks NC continue to work towards their Bronze CAPS accreditation. 2.3/2.4 Playing the Game HE/FE ( Active Colleges / UNO ) Netball Now sessions continue at Bournemouth Uni and at Glenmoor and Winton Academy as part of the Arts Uni Bournemouth ‘Give it a go’ project, in conjunction with Active Dorset. The last league fixture for those taking part in the HE/FE league at SDE, Bournemouth is this week. (22nd February). 2.5 Playing the Game Community (B2N, Netball Now, Walking Netball) The B2N programme which was running at St Edwards school in Poole has now finished. This was extremely successful with 110 ladies registered since the sessions started in June 2016. (91 of the ladies were new to Netball – had not played for at least 12 months). Some ladies are now training with Lilliput NC and some have continued with B2N sessions at QE which started just recently. There is also an opportunity for them to play friendly fixtures as a group/team and these are being arranged now. The QE, Wimborne sessions started on 2nd February and so far 22 ladies are taking part. A brand new B2N programme is starting this week, 23rd February at Redlands CSH, Weymouth. This is being run by SWDNL. Thanks to the league for their support with this. Walking Netball in Dorset has had a fairly slow start compared to other counties and this has been mainly due to a lack of trained hosts. However, its great that there are now two programmes running – in Sherborne and Ferndown. There are 9 ladies registered for the Sherborne programme and the sessions at Ferndown are due to start this week. 4. Competition + Events (B2N Festivals) 8 teams took part in the Netball Challenge Cup for 6th form, college and uni teams. Congratulations to Twynham A who were winners on the day. 5/6/7 Workforce Volunteering, Coaching, Officiating, ( courses CPD, YUA, POYP, YNO Goalden Globes Into Officiating courses are being delivered to students at The Blandford School, Poole High and Twynham School. Following the first digital publication last year, we have decided to continue with the new modern design because it was a great success. This year we look to mix the old with the new (similar to many club teams out there!). The 2014 Yearbook has become a digital e-book with turning pages and a book style appearance. I would like to say I am privileged to be the editor of such a prestigious historic yearbook whose archives date back to around the 1970s’. As a University student with a love of cricket, this has been a very exciting project for me. The good news is that the player statistics look a lot healthier than the previous rain affected season! In complete contrast to the 2012/13 season we saw the long awaited return of the large, bright, warm circle in the sky. Gone were the days of turning up to a ground to see sodden grass and puddles on and around the pitch. The weather was brilliant and everyone was confident and excited to complete a full season of competitive cricket. Now I’m going to leave you to enjoy reliving the cricketing year of 2013 in Dorset.
