Es fehlt noch genau ein Boot. Da bisher nur vier deutsche Crews gemeldet sind, besteht sicher noch die Chance, dass eine Mannschaft nachmeldet. -

PRESS KIT THE VENUE 470 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MEN & WOMEN 04-13 SEPTEMBER 2006 RIZHAO, CHINA THE VENUE The venue for the 2006 International 470 Class World Championships is the offshore sea area of Wanpingkou in Rizhao with two 3000 m diameter race areas 500 m from the beach, the Wanping- kou square and the ultramodern Rizhao Interna- tional Water Sports Base. Water depth is 10 m. Rizhao, meaning “the sun shines”, got its name in year 1087, a beautiful oriental coastal city with civilisation dating back 5000 years with its blue sky, jade sea and 60 km golden sand beaches looks forward to welcoming with open arms and warm heart and hospitality the Europe Class sailing family from all around the world to the opening up China. Press Kit The Mission Our project has three main pillars, sailing science and education. Team Malizia was founded by Monegasque Pierre Casiraghi and German skipper Boris Herrmann in 2016 with the aim for Boris to perform at the highest level in the Vendee Globe 2020 race solo around the world. Beside the sporting aim, we have a strong message around climate change and ocean protection. Our ocean educators created a kids kit in 6 languages to educate kids around the world about what is happening in our oceans. We have partnerships with leading scientific bodies in order to further research on ocean Co2 and we carry an onboard ocean laboratory to measure valuable ocean data. In 2019 we hit world news by sailing Greta Thunberg emission free across the Atlantic to the UN Climate Action Conference. www.myoceanchallenge.org BORIS HERRMANN PIERRE CASIRAGHI The Skipper 39 year old Boris Herrmann has been dreaming of this challenge his whole life and on the 8th November 2020 he will become the first German to compete in the Vendee Globe. Born in Germany but raised on the water, Boris spent much of his life sailing with his family and took every free moment to sail or compete. Boris completed his first mini transit at 18 but rather than only pursue a career in sailing, he took the time to study and he obtained a Business MBA. Boris’ passion for sailing created his passion for the ocean which led to his desire to create The Ocean Challenge - to bring the oceans to the schools and to sensitise children to protect the ocean. -

It's not like this sort of experience is falling off trees. While a lot of jabber about singlehanded sailing can be found on discussion forums and the odd magazine articles, this is the first collection of the varied aspects of the sport put together in one place. It takes thousands of hours of sailing to get the kind of knowledge contained in this book. It also takes a lot of experimentation and a willingness to be wrong nine times before getting it right on the tenth. -

A great lesson for life.” Jean-Pierre Dick A GREAT CHALLENGE wo crew members, one boat and 24,000 nautical miles across Tthe world’s three great oceans. On 31 December in Barcelona the greatest double-handed sailing challenge will begin: the non- stop, around the world race without external assistance. Sailing over 24,000 nautical miles is in itself a challenge. Double- handed, the challenge becomes even greater. On board a boat 18 metres long, there is no escape. You share happy moments, but also have to endure stressful times together. You have to learn to manage your emotions and deal not only with your ups and downs but also those of the other crew member. You have to do this in an environment where there is no room for home comforts. On board an IMOCA 60, sailors have to be completely self-sufficient. They have only freeze-dried food, a bunk bed to sleep on, and a few changes of clothes for a three-month, non-stop sailing trip. They are totally dependent on themselves and their vessel, on a journey that takes them to the most inhospitable reaches of the Earth. Moreover, they have to deal with the harshest conditions nature can throw at them. From the notorious equatorial doldrums and the suffocating heat of the tropics, to the intense cold and dangers of the icy regions. -

470 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS MEN & WOMEN From the 4th till the 13th of July, the 470 World Championships Men & Women will be held at Cascais, Portugal, as part of the ISAF Sailing World Championships 2007. ISAF SAILING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS The 2007 ISAF Sailing World Championships is the combined event for World Championships for Olympic Classes the World Championships of all Olympic Classes. The combined event takes place from 28 June-13 July in Cascais, Portugal. 'The Wind Is Calling' is the official motto for the 2007 Worlds. The Championships are the principal qualification regatta for the 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition, with 75% of all national places to be decided.
