Plant Availability List – January 7, 2016 Plant Availability List – January 7, 2016 I will be initiating major upgrades to the web site during winter of 2015. I Have about finished restocking plants from the spring sales. I will be adding utilities later to the nursery as well as making repairs. Propagation from cuttings usually takes 2 weeks to root. Colored dots indicate forecasted availability. Newly struck cuttings are marked by M. Newly potted cuttings are marked with a blue dot M and will be ready in 10 - 21 days, depending on variety and temperatures. Recently re-acquired and new stock plants are marked by a green dot M. Replacement stock plants I need to find a source of are marked by a magenta dot M. Those items without any dot are mostly plants that I have as established stock plants or am not currently offering. More replacements of lost stock plants will be coming. I restrict distribution of plants labeled PP and especially PPAF to comply with royalty agreements. This depends on the source of my propagation stock. I finally have bought a modest number of plugs of some of the more popular patented selections, like Amistad, Mystic Spires, and the Heatwave and Suncrest Dancer series. And of course, Wendy’s Wish and the new Ember’s Wish and Love and Wishes. This trial year to determine interest in these patented plants has worked out well, and pretty much as expected. Shell Dancer has shown to handle the winter of 2014 - 2015 in western Massachusetts well. What other surprises are there? A number of old plants in stock have been repotted. Production of cuttings continues and new seed for 2015 is up and about to be potted up. I am growing some new species from last year as stock plants, including one seedling of Salvia leucocephala, which I have in abundance now, along with the purplish fuchsia Salvia guaranitica Jean’s Jewel. Abstract: In this study, the morphological and anatomical properties of Salvia argentea L. (Lamiaceae) have been investigated. S. argentea has a perennial taproot. The stem is erect and quadrangular. Leaves are simple. Inflorescense is verticillate cyme. The upper lip of corolla is white, tinged light lilac at the top. The lower lip is cream. In our research, the cross-sections of root, stem, leaf, petiole, calyx and corolla are indicated. The anatomical features are discussed. Results are presented with photographs, drawings and tables. • Taxonomic Overview of the Mexican Species of Salvia Sect. Flocculosae (Lamiaceae)
Turner, B.L. 2013. Taxonomic overview of the Mexican species of Salvia sect. Flocculosae (Lamiaceae). Phytoneuron 36: 1– 11. Published 27 May 2013. ISSN 2153 733X TAXONOMIC OVERVIEW OF THE MEXICAN SPECIES OF SALVIA SECT. FLOCCULOSAE (LAMIACEAE) BILLIE L. TURNER Plant Resources Center The University of Texas Austin, Texas 78712 ABSTRACT Epling (1939) delimited Salvia sect. Flocculosae as largely a Mexican taxon composed of 19 species, 10 confined to Mexico and closely adjacent USA. Two additional taxa, Salvia venturana B.L. Turner, sp. nov. , from Puebla, and S. jessicae B.L. Turner, sp. nov. , from Coahuila, are added to the complex in the present account, the latter a well-marked gypsophile. Salvia chamaedryoides var. isochroma is treated here at specific rank as Salvia isochroma (Fern.) B.L. Turner, comb. et stat. nov. Photographs of the newly ordained types are provided, along with maps showing the distribution of the Mexican species of the complex. KEY WORDS : Lamiaceae, Salvia sect. Flocculosae , gypsophily, Mexico In Epling’s account (1939), Salvia sect. Flocculosae (Epling) Epling accommodated 18 taxa, 10 from Mexico, 2 from the Dominican Republic, and 5 from South America (including the type species of the section), all having the attributes in the description below. Most noteworthy are those taxa possessing floccose (tufted or branched) hairs, which gives the section its name. The present paper considers only the Mexican species and adds 3 species, two newly described and one raised from varietal rank. Perennial, suffruticose herbs or shrublets, 20–80 cm high. Stems pubescent with branched hairs or not. Leaf blades ovate to deltoid-elliptic, 6–30 mm long, 4–10 mm wide.

Biol Res 43, 2010, 403-409 B403R The foliar trichomes of Hypoestes aristata (Vahl) Sol. ex Roem. & Schult var aristata (Acanthaceae) a widespread medicinal plant species in tropical sub-Saharan Africa: with comments on its possible phylogenetic significance A. Bhatt*, Y. Naidoo and A. Nicholas School of Biological and Conservation Sciences, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Westville Campus, Private Bag X54001, Durban, KZN, 4000, South Africa ABSTRACT The micromorphology of foliar trichomes of Hypoestes aristata var. aristata was studied using stereo, light and scanning microscopy (SEM). This genus belongs to the advanced angiosperm family Acanthaceae, for which few micromorphological leaf studies exist. Results revealed both glandular and non-glandular trichomes, the latter being more abundant on leaf veins, particularly on the abaxial surface of very young leaves. With leaf maturity, the density of non-glandular trichomes decreased. Glandular trichomes were rare and of two types: long-stalked capitate and globose-like peltate trichomes. Capitate trichomes were observed only on the abaxial leaf surface, while peltate trichomes were distributed on both adaxial and abaxial leaf surfaces. Key terms: Acanthaceae, Glandular trichomes, Hypoestes aristata var. aristata, medicinal plant, Scanning electron microscope.
