The success on the field during the year was absolutely sensational and all players should be congratulated. Subiaco Marist Cricket Club is a proud club and our rewards on the field during the year have come from the collective efforts of everyone out on the field. The club started our finals campaign with all Senior Male and Female teams making it to the Semi Finals. This is a feat that has never before been achieved by our club and possibly not by any suburban cricket club in Perth. After the first week of finals it was left to Ladies A, First Grade, Third Grade and the One Day Side to contest the Grand Finals. It was a great effort for the Senior Men’s sides to have both first grade and third grade in the final. History will show that first grade and third grade were beaten but their efforts over the season were superb. A big thank you to Shane Properjohn as leader of first grade, his off field leadership this year was excellent, and laid the platform for the disciplines required to compete in first grade. To our Premiership Winning Sides – We Salute You.As a player we must never take for granted how tough it is to win a premiership in any sport at any level. I would like to congratulate the following sides on bringing home a flag for Subiaco Marist Cricket Club. 10th Grade Premiers- One Day and Two DayPremiers One Day Premiers- One Day Division 1 Ladies Premiers- WACA “A” Grade Thank you to each of Dave Palmer, Matt Angus and Avril Fahey respectively for your leadership during the year. I would like to make particular mention of two members who were bestowed a life membership of the club during season 2007/08. The two members in Avril Fahey and Shane Properjohn epitomise what it means to be a great member of our club. Both Avril and Shane have put in superb efforts over a long period of time, both from a playing, captaincy and committee roles. I would like to thank all our hard working volunteers that assist the club during the year. Thank you to all our captains/vice captains for taking on the job this year. Thanks to Rosco Properjohn for taking the nets, you do an excellent job in coordinating over 50 plus people at training. John Lucas always does a power of work at the club and this year was no exception, so thanks JL We look forward to seeing all players back again for season 2008/09 with a new set of challenges that awaits us. The summer weather has not lived up to expectations. Who mentioned climate change? England have continued to make great progress in Test matches but their performances in One Day Internationals still leaves a lot to be desired. The difficult tour to South Africa this winter will be good preparation for next year’s Ashes series. Is the Aussie team growing old together or will they come up with some interesting replacements? Perhaps there are a few playing in the Championship this summer!! At the time of writing Worcester are struggling. After a reasonable start, relegation is on the cards in the Championship, whilst promotion in the Totesport League is in the balance.

WOMEN’S TWENTY20 SATURDAY MELBOURNE STARS V JANUARY 2, 2016 FACT SHEET MELBOURNE RENEGADES LIBRARY Australian Women’s Domestic Twenty20 (T20) – A Brief History Victoria Spirit (4/135) defeated the New South Wales Breakers (6/118) by 17 runs in an unofficial women’s domestic T20 match which was organised by Cricket Victoria at the Richmond Cricket Ground on December 20, 2006. Victoria batted first with player-of-the-match Catherine Fitzpatrick top scoring with 42 runs off 30 balls (1 six, 4 fours). She was supported by Sarah Edwards 37 (32 balls, 1 four) and Rachael Haynes 25 (31 balls, 3 fours). In reply for NSW Lisa Sthalekar top scored with 36 (26 balls, 6 fours) supported by Kate Blackwell 30 (22 balls, 4 fours). Vic Spirit’s Clea Smith was the only multiple wicket taker of the match with figures of 2/19 off four overs. Although she went wicketless Vic Spirit’s Catherine Fitzpatrick, was the most economical bowler of the match conceding only 14 runs from her four overs. It was the tight bowling by the Victorians that contained the New South Wales batters and won the match. In November 2007 a series of five matches were played as part of a women’s interstate T20 tournament. Each state played two matches but no final was programmed. The participating teams were New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. In the 2008/09 season the women’s domestic T20 competition was expanded with two tournaments being staged. The Women’s Interstate T20 tournament consisted of a series of five matches played by the same states that had played the previous season.

  • Decolonisation and the Imperial Cricket Conference, 1947–1965: a Study in Transnational Commonwealth History?
Decolonisation and the Imperial Cricket Conference, 1947–1965: A Study in Transnational Commonwealth History? by Usha Iyer A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctorate of Philosophy at the University of Central Lancashire September 2013 Student Declaration Concurrent registration for two or more academic awards *I declare that while registered as a candidate for the research degree, I have not been a registered candidate or enrolled student for another award of the University or other academic or professional institution Material submitted for another award *I declare that no material contained in the thesis has been used in any other submission for an academic award and is solely my own work Signature of Candidate: Type of Award : PhD School : School of Sport, Tourism and the Outdoors Abstract The game of cricket is often discussed as an enduring legacy of the British Empire. This dissertation examines the response of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) as the official governing body of ‘international’ men’s cricket to developments related to decolonisation of the British Empire between 1947 and 1965. This was a period of intense political flux and paradigmatic shifts. This study draws on primary sources in the form of records of ICC and MCC meetings and newspaper archives, and a wide-ranging corpus of secondary sources on the history of cricket, history of the Commonwealth and transnational perspectives on history. It is the contention of this dissertation that these cricket archives have hitherto not been exploited as commentary on decolonisation or the Commonwealth. Due attention is given to familiarising the reader with the political backdrop in the Empire and Commonwealth against which the ICC is studied.

  • 285 - November 2008
THE HAMPSHIRE CRICKET SOCIETY Patrons: John Woodcock Frank Bailey Shaun Udal NEWSLETTER No. 285 - NOVEMBER 2008 Wednesday 12 November 2008 – Meeting This year’s beneficiary, JOHN CRAWLEY, makes a welcome return to the Society this evening. His first visit was in October 2005 when members enjoyed a most pleasant evening in his company. John Crawley has endeared himself to Hampshire supporters during his seven years with the County. He has reinforced his penchant for making high scores by being the only batsman in the County’s history to record two triple centuries, both at the expense of the Nottinghamshire bowlers. He made 301 not out at Trent Bridge in 2005 and then followed it up with an unbeaten 311 at The Rose Bowl a year later. Virtually all Hampshire supporters felt it was a great pity that Shane Warne declared when our speaker was tantalisingly close to Dick More’s record 316 for the County. When he last spoke to us he felt that the former innings was the best crafted and that, in respect of the latter, the emphasis had to be on winning the match, which Hampshire duly did. Moreover, he made 272 on his Hampshire debut at Canterbury in 2002; he has therefore recorded three of the six highest innings for the County. All three innings are the highest made for Hampshire in the last 70 years – a phenomenal achievement. He might even have made a triple century in the latter innings but was unluckily run out at the non-striker’s end when a Shaun Udal drive was deflected on to the stumps by Min Patel.
