President’s Report The 2017/18 season was one of change and opportunity. At the end of the 2016/17 season, we reflected on the achievements and then went to work on the areas of improvement for the Club. Our women’s cricket was showing significant signs of improvement and had a strong and committed leadership group. The leadership group needed an improved structure, support and access to coaching to convert enthusiasm in to on-field success. The support of Cricket Australia facilitated our appointment of James Sansalone to lead the women’s cricket program and he was assisted by Aaron Lilly as a specialist batting coach with Cal How always willing to also get involved and help. From a Club perspective, it was brilliant to see senior players supporting our women’s cricket program. Many thanks to the leadership group and to the coaching and support staff on the significant improvements which culminated in the B’s T20 premiership. Our juniors were well lead by Andrew Sculthorpe who coordinated the 13s 14s 15s and 17s and with good coaches and a well-structured support group, our teams performed exceptionally well. Many of our 15s and 17’s players were given an opportunity to play seniors and with the active involvement of Dermott Reeve in the junior program, it helped facilitate a bridge for our talent to advance into our senior teams. I expressed our thanks to all of the players and supporters at the junior windup and given the enthusiasm and performances of our juniors, the Club has a bright future. Coming off a 1st Grade premiership, we had several long serving players hang up their spikes resulting in the loss of 11 players from our top 2 sides. The losses created both challenges and opportunities. Our success in the prior

In the absence of any Second XI cricket and the One Day Cup competition, the Bob Willis Trophy reports have been expanded to include a write up for each day’s play as well as the full scorecards. Sadly all fixtures were played behind closed doors so hopefully these extended reports will enable readers to get the feeling of actually being at the game! In addition, the Somerset Women’s team reports plus the Boys and Girls Pathway write ups are included in the first half of the book as they now come under the remit of Somerset CCC rather than the Somerset Cricket Board.

  • Cricket Memorabilia Society Postal Auction Closing at Noon 10
CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 10th JULY 2020 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor.. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down. Items will be sent to successful postal bidders the week after the auction and will be sent by the cheapest rate commensurate with the value and size of the item.

Season Update Following a disappointing run in recent weeks, Carlton got their title bid back on track last Saturday with a vital win over old rivals Grange at Portgower Place. After Grange won the toss and put Carlton into bat, the visitors overcame the early loss of Fraser Watts to build a challenging total. Cedric English played a captain’s role, battling a hamstring injury to hit 57, ably supported by Woody who scored 45 to take his Premier League aggregate for the season to over 500. An entertaining unbeaten 50 partnership from Jamie Kerr and Michael Radnidge hauled Carlton up to 240. Mo Afzal responded well to being handed the new ball by making a crucial early breakthrough and with Cedric bravely bowling his full 10 overs despite his injury Carlton were always in the game, particularly when Rad clean bowled two middle-order batsmen. The big breakthrough Welcome: Watsonian CC came via Dave Robertson who cleverly(!?) bowled a legside wide to entice pro McSkimming out of his crease and towards the pavilion, courtesy of the nation’s top stumper Mr JAM Kerr. Today we wish a warm welcome to President Tim Bunker and the Watsonian supporters. With Grange dismissed for 200, the win gave Carlton a vital 10 points and moved us up to second While our near neighbours from Myreside are a few years younger than us, they still celebrated their centenary in 1975. in the table. RACE AND CRICKET: THE WEST INDIES AND ENGLAND AT LORD’S, 1963 by HAROLD RICHARD HERBERT HARRIS Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School of The University of Texas at Arlington in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT ARLINGTON August 2011 Copyright © by Harold Harris 2011 All Rights Reserved To Romelee, Chamie and Audie ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS My journey began in Antigua, West Indies where I played cricket as a boy on the small acreage owned by my family. I played the game in Elementary and Secondary School, and represented The Leeward Islands’ Teachers’ Training College on its cricket team in contests against various clubs from 1964 to 1966. My playing days ended after I moved away from St Catharines, Ontario, Canada, where I represented Ridley Cricket Club against teams as distant as 100 miles away. The faculty at the University of Texas at Arlington has been a source of inspiration to me during my tenure there. Alusine Jalloh, my Dissertation Committee Chairman, challenged me to look beyond my pre-set Master’s Degree horizon during our initial conversation in 2000. He has been inspirational, conscientious and instructive; qualities that helped set a pattern for my own discipline. I am particularly indebted to him for his unwavering support which was indispensable to the inclusion of a chapter, which I authored, in The United States and West Africa: Interactions and Relations , which was published in 2008; and I am very grateful to Stephen Reinhardt for suggesting the sport of cricket as an area of study for my dissertation.

WOMEN’S TWENTY20 SATURDAY MELBOURNE STARS V JANUARY 2, 2016 FACT SHEET MELBOURNE RENEGADES LIBRARY Australian Women’s Domestic Twenty20 (T20) – A Brief History Victoria Spirit (4/135) defeated the New South Wales Breakers (6/118) by 17 runs in an unofficial women’s domestic T20 match which was organised by Cricket Victoria at the Richmond Cricket Ground on December 20, 2006. Victoria batted first with player-of-the-match Catherine Fitzpatrick top scoring with 42 runs off 30 balls (1 six, 4 fours). She was supported by Sarah Edwards 37 (32 balls, 1 four) and Rachael Haynes 25 (31 balls, 3 fours). In reply for NSW Lisa Sthalekar top scored with 36 (26 balls, 6 fours) supported by Kate Blackwell 30 (22 balls, 4 fours). Vic Spirit’s Clea Smith was the only multiple wicket taker of the match with figures of 2/19 off four overs. Although she went wicketless Vic Spirit’s Catherine Fitzpatrick, was the most economical bowler of the match conceding only 14 runs from her four overs. It was the tight bowling by the Victorians that contained the New South Wales batters and won the match. In November 2007 a series of five matches were played as part of a women’s interstate T20 tournament. Each state played two matches but no final was programmed. The participating teams were New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. In the 2008/09 season the women’s domestic T20 competition was expanded with two tournaments being staged. The Women’s Interstate T20 tournament consisted of a series of five matches played by the same states that had played the previous season.
