    Folding Chairs When I began researching folding chairs I expected to find an abundance of information about how they were used, what materials were best, where to purchase them and similar questions to aide in a civilian portrayal. After all a variety of folding chairs abound in military photographs and illustrations. The further I researched the more evident it became that I was not going to find a list of chairs which Civil War era civilian reenactors should be using, an abundance of manufacturing statistics leading up to the war, or even advice for selecting the chairs and their upholstery in home economy books. Instead, I found despite a history dating back centuries, folding chairs were minimally used domestically during the first half of the nineteenth century. This was followed by a resurgence in popularity during and immediately following the War, which may have sprouted during the 1850s in the United States and earlier in the century in Europe*. This finding leaves us with a significant quandary regarding the use of folding chairs among civilian reenactors. True. Folding chairs offer several appealing factors. They are easy to pack. They are easy to carry. They offer a periodesque look to a display, home or encampment. They are frequently less expensive then mid-nineteenth century non-folding chairs or their reproductions. They are also documented for military use. Are any of these factors justification enough for the use of folding chairs by civilians? Sorry. I am not going to answer that question for you. I am going to provide you with a summary of what information I have found to aid you in your decision on chair use.

    RESTAURANT INTYPES: CONTEMPORARY INTERIOR DESIGN AND THEORY STUDY A Thesis Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School of Cornell University In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts by Soomin Jasmin Cho May 2009 © 2009 Soomin Jasmin Cho ABSTRACT The focus of this thesis research is the identification, development and naming of a series of archetypical practices for restaurant designs for the on-going Intypes (Interior Archetypes) Research and Teaching Project. Initiated in 1997 this project creates a typology of contemporary design practices that are derived from reiterative historical designs that span time and style and cross cultural boundaries. Research regarding designing of restaurant spaces in terms of creating spatial experiences through interior design elements hardly exists, whereas numerous books featuring “hip restaurants” or restaurants designed by celebrity architects or designers abound. This thesis developed theoretical studies based on restaurant design from those examples that have been recognized and published in significant architectural and interior design trade journals. Previous graduate students have developed Intypes for other practice types, including retail store, art museum, boutique hotel, as well as elements, such as materials. However, the body of knowledge being developed by the Intypes project lacked practices about restaurant design, one of the major hospitality practice areas. This thesis resulted in the development of fourteen Restaurant Intypes according to color schemes, seating arrangements, display aesthetics, lighting strategies, wall treatments, and materials. These Intypes are identified and classified based on a comprehensive survey of contemporary trade magazines and scholarly articles, secondary sources, and site visits of significant recently completed restaurant interiors.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will conduct a demonstration that will implement a prior authorization process for certain medical equipment for all people with Medicare who reside in seven states with high populations of fraud- and error-prone providers (California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, and Texas). This is an important step toward paying appropriately for certain medical equipment that has a high error rate. This demonstration will help ensure that a beneficiary’s medical condition warrants their medical equipment under existing coverage guidelines. Moreover, the program will assist in preserving a Medicare beneficiary’s right to receive quality products from accredited suppliers. CMS received many comments/suggestions on the Prior Authorization of Power Mobility Devices (PMDs) demonstration. The CMS has considered these comments carefully. In response to comments received from stakeholders, the CMS has made a number of modifications to the Prior Authorization of PMD demonstrations.
