306 About the Contributors Ladjel Bellatreche received his PhD in computer science from the Clermont Ferrand University (France, 2000). He is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at Poitiers University, France since 2002. Before joining Poitiers University, he has been a visiting researcher at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) from 1997 to 1999 and also has been a visiting researcher in the Computer Science Department at Purdue University, USA during the summer of 2001. He has worked extensively in the areas: heterogeneous data integration using formal ontologies, distributed databases, data warehousing, and data mining. He has published more than 75 research papers in these areas in leading international journal and conferences. Ladjel has been associated with many conferences and journals as program committee members. * * * Yamine Ait Ameur is full professor at the National School of Engineers in Mechanics and Aero- nautics (ENSMA). He is the director of the laboratory of computing (LISI) at ENSMA and head of the data engineering research team. Formal methods, ontology based data modeling and database are his main topics of interest. He has written several research papers and supervised several PhD thesis. His research results have been applied in various engineering areas like aeronautics, embedded systems and petroleum industry. Mohamed Badri defended his Phd in computer science at the Paris Descartes University in 2008. Since 2007 he has worked as an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science. His interests include maintenance of heterogeneous data warehouses. He also worked in the OLAP area trying to find a new OLAP structure. Hanene Ben-Abdallah received a BS in computer science and a BS in mathematics from the Uni- versity of Minnesota, MPLS, MN, USA in 1989, a Master’s degree (in 1991) and a PhD in Computer and Information Science from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, USA in 1996. She joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the University of Waterloo, CA for a postdoctoral fellowship in 1996. Since 1997, she has been in the Computer Science department in the Faculty of Economics and Management at the University of Sfax, Tunisia, where she is now an associate professor. Hanene’s research interests include the application of formal methods and reuse techniques in software engineering, and graphical specification languages. About the Contributors Zohra Bellahsene is Professor in computer science, at the University of Montpellier 2, France. She has devoted her recent research and publications on various aspects of data integration, and Database view mechanisms, organizing database summer schools, and serving on the committees of several French and international conferences. She has organized or chaired several international conferences and workshops, including being the PC chair of 20th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE’08), the general chair of the XML Database Symposium (XSym2006), the PC co-chair of the International conference on Object-Oriented Information Systems (OOIS’02) and the local chair of OTM’06 the confederated conferences (400 participants). Fadila Bentayeb has been an associate professor at the University of Lyon 2, France since 2001. She is a member of the Decision Support Databases research group within the ERIC laboratory. She received her PhD degree in computer science from the University of Orléans, France in 1998. Her current research interests regard database management systems, including the integration of data mining techniques into DBMSs and data warehouse design, with a special interest for schema evolution, analysis personaliza- tion, XML and complex data warehousing, benchmarking and optimisation techniques. Born in 1978, Sandro Bimonte is researcher at CEMAGREF, and more exactly he is at TSCF. He speaks fluently French, English, and Italian. Previously, he carried out researches at the University of Salerno, Italy (2002-2003), INSA-Lyon, French (2004-2007), IMAG, French 2007-2008. He is Manag- ing Editor de Journal of Decision Systems, Editorial Board member of International Journal of Decision Support System Technology, and International Journal of Data Mining, Modelling and Management and member of the Commission on GeoVisualization of the International Cartographic Association. Faouzi Boufarès has presented his Phd in 1986 at University Paris 11. He works as an associate professor in Paris Nord University. His research focus on database, data warehouse, integrity constraints in databases and integration of heterogeneous data sources. 307 About the Contributors Omar Boussaid is a full professor in computer science at the School of Economics and Manage- ment of the University of Lyon 2, France. He received his PhD degree in computer science from the University of Lyon 1, France in 1988. Since 1995, he is the director of the Master Computer Science Engineering for Decision and Economic Evaluation of the University of Lyon 2. He is a head of the Decision Support Databases research group within the ERIC Laboratory. His main research subjects are data warehousing, multidimensional databases and OLAP. His current research concerns complex data warehousing and mining, XML warehousing, combining OLAP and data mining, and the use of ontologies within complex data warehousing. Patrice Buche received the Ph.D degree in computer science from the University of Rennes (France) in 1990. He was an assistant professor at INA P-G (Institut National Agronomique Paris-Grignon) from 1992 to 2002. He has been a research engineer at the Applied Mathematical and Computer Science department of INRA (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique) since 2002. His research works mainly concern data integration and fuzzy querying in structured and weakly-structured databases. Dr Buche has published papers in these areas in several international conferences and journals. Sandrine Contenot received the vocational training certificate taken at end of 2-year higher educa- tion course from the high school of Bar le Duc (France) in 1999.She was research computer technician at GEVES (Group for studies and controls on varieties and seeds) of INRA (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique) from 2000 to 2007. She has been assistant engineer in computer science at the Applied Mathematical and Computer Science department of INRA since 2007. Rogério Luís de Carvalho Costa is a PhD student at the University of Coimbra Portugal and aggregate professor at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) - Brazil, where he teaches undergraduate curricula. His research interests include data warehousing, parallel and dis- tributed database systems, database self-tuning and bioinformatics. Jérôme Darmont received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Clermont-Ferrand II, France in 1999. He joined the University of Lyon 2, France in 1999 as an associate professor, and became full professor in 2008. He was head of the Decision Support Databases research group within the ERIC laboratory from 2000 to 2008, and has been director of the Computer Science and Statistics Department of the School of Economics and Management since 2003. His current research interests mainly relate to performance in database management systems and data warehouses (performance op- timization, auto-administration, benchmarking...), but also include XML and complex data warehousing and mining, and medical or health-related applications.
