Friendship and Relationship Skills Workshop What? Parts 1 and 2 workshops for people with disability (aged 25 years plus) will include structured educational activities. Living Well After Cancer - Free Community Education Program What? Run by The Cancer Council NSW with trained cancer survivors, the program includes practical information and open discussion for people who are cancer survivors, carers, family, friends and work colleagues. Participation in the NDIS More than 17,300 people are on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) with $952.8 million invested in services and equipment, according to the latest Quarterly Report released yesterday. The report said the NDIS participation rate is at 94 per cent of targets, an improvement from the last quarter when rates only reached 85 per cent. The Scheme is also within budget, with the average cost of individual plans at $33,597, coming in below the expected cost of $36,750, according to the report. Direct Employment Accessible Technology The organisation My Voice and a newly developed company Biz4all will shortly be trialling an online interactive tool that can support people who are self managing and directing their own supports. They are currently looking for volunteers who may be interested in trialling what they are developing and providing feedback. Once the product is created, those volunteers will benefit from 6 months free access if they choose to use it. The prototype is to be developed by October ready to trial. Free Direct Payment Training with My Voice If you are a client of the NSW Department of Family and Community, you may be eligible to access My Voice Direct Payment Training for free. Local Direct Payment Coordinators are able to refer individuals to My Voice for training to support their commencement or maintain their service quality. 2016 Vision Australia Further Education Bursaries Each year, Vision Australia awards bursaries to students of any age who are blind or have low vision. The bursaries provide adaptive technology to help the students fully participate and succeed in their chosen studies. Assistive technology can eliminate barriers to education and enhance access to information. It enables students to read course material, conduct research and improve their student life. Students must be enrolled/enrolling to study in at least Certificate IV or higher accredited courses including undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in ACT, NSW, QLD, NT or TAS. Young Carer Bursary Program This assists eligible young carers aged 25 years and under to continue or return to study, by relieving the financial pressure on them to undertake part-time work in addition to their educational and caring responsibilities. Funded by Department of Social Services, the Programme will run for three years (2015–2017) and is being delivered by Carers Australia. 2016 Ansvar Grants for Community Education Program Not for Profit Insurance provider, Ansvar supports sustainable programs for Australians under the age of 25, promoting ongoing education, skills training and programs making a significant difference to the lives of the participants. Grants of up to $50,000 each are available for projects that fall into two categories – Empowerment and Education (provide opportunities to develop positive values that lead to healthy lifestyle choices and a positive contribution to our community) and Outreach and Support (support youths who are at risk or are already experiencing difficulties through rehabilitation and/or skills training). To date, Ansvar has donated over $10 million dollars to these programs in the last two decades. The 2015 CEP Grant recipients included 20th Man Youth Fund, Fighting Chance, Cobram & District Specialist School, Everyday CareSouth, Second Chances SA, The Shepherd Centre and Operation Stitches.
