Parts 1 and 2 workshops for people with disability (aged 25 years plus) will include structured educational activities. Topics include conversation and turn taking; Making friends; Steps in forming relationships; Touching, timing and consent; and Protecting yourself from unwanted touch. This workshop gives the participants an opportunity to meet and socialise with others. When? Saturdays 19 and 26 September, 1pm-4pm. Where? Granville Town Hall, 10 Carlton Street, Granville. Reminder: 2015 Northcott High School Interschool Athletics Carnival What? All students who have a disability are welcome to represent their school and compete against other young people with similar abilities from both Sydney metro and regional areas. Students from schools that do not have enough students to create a team can compete as a Combined Schools Team. Schools must arrange transportation for their own students. Students may enter up to three races, and compete in discus, shotput, wheelchair slalom. When? Wednesday 9 September, 9.30am-2.30pm. Where? The Right Foot – Free Dance Workshops for Young Adults with / without Disability What? Facilitated by Sarah-Vyne Vassalo and Brianna Kell, these workshops for people aged 14-26 are open to all levels of ability, with low to moderate support needs. Dirtyfeet is a not-for-profit contemporary dance organisation providing free opportunities for young people to improve health and wellbeing, build confidence and connect with Sydney’s professional dance artists. Open Day at Different Degrees Theatre Ensemble What? Try out your acting skills and check the skills of the group of 13 adults with various talents and lots of potential. Put on your creative hat for two hours in delightful company and a great atmosphere. The Ensemble has performed at the Powerhouse Museum winning the award in the category ‘Accessibility in the arts’ and at the Concourse in Chatswood to celebrate the International Day of People with a Disability. St Lucy’s accredited KWS trainers (Speech Pathologist Melissa Miao and Special Education Teacher Nicole Alldis) will cover the use of Key Word Sign and natural gesture to assist individuals who have difficulties with receptive and/or expressive communication. This workshop is relevant for anyone living or working with a person with communication difficulties including families, teachers, health professionals, child care workers and volunteers. No previous signing experience is necessary. Manuals ‘Getting Started with Key Word Sign’ will be available for purchase. When? Friday 21 August, 9.30am – 3.30pm. Where? St Lucy’s School, 21 Cleveland St, Wahroonga. Cost? St Lucy’s families $100, Others $120. St Lucy's is part of a new study into the Stepping Stones Triple P (SSTP), specially tailored for parents of children with a disability. This involves SSTP seminars and primary care (individual consultations) with parents and carers free of charge. When?
