    Anne Frank House Annual Report 2019 The Anne Frank House is an independent organisation dedicated to the preservation of the place where Anne Frank went into hiding and wrote her diary during the Second World War. The organisation brings the life story and the work of Anne Frank to the attention of as many people as possible worldwide, partly with the aim of raising awareness of the dangers of antisemitism, racism and discrimination and the importance of freedom, equal rights and democracy. Foreword More than 1.3 million people from all over the world visited the Anne Frank House in 2019, as you will read in this annual report. How much the situation has changed! The world is going through an unprecedented crisis, which has an enormous impact on people everywhere, and also on the Anne Frank House. As part of the global effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus, we had to close the doors to the museum on 13th March. Since its opening on 3 May 1960, the number of visitors has grown almost every year. From several tens of thousands in the first years, to the record number of 1.3 million visitors in 2019. People from all over the world come to the Anne Frank House and, through the bookcase, enter the empty spaces of the Secret Annex, where the Frank family, the Van Pels family, and Fritz Pfeffer hid from the Nazis for more than two years. These are the 25 months Anne Frank describes so poignantly in her diary. This year, the upward trend of visitor numbers came to an end around the 60th anniversary of the House.

Journal writing has been a pastime of many famous writers over the years, especially in trying times such as those we are going through now. Daniel Defoe, most famous for writing Robinson Crusoe, also wrote A Journal of the Plague Year, which chronicled life in London during the Bubonic Plague of 1665. Another famous journal-keeper was Anne Frank, who wrote the famous Diary of a Young Girl (a. k. a. The Diary of Anne Frank), telling about her life as a Jew in hiding during World War II in occupied Amsterdam. In addition to famous authors, online bloggers have kept the habit of journaling (albeit online) popular in modern times. In the world of psychology, journaling is well-known, too, as a method of getting in touch with one’s feelings and making sense of things. Over time, the journal you write or type becomes a friend of sorts, a sounding wall you can turn to and share feelings, descriptions, and events with as a means of making order out of disorder. As many of us are experiencing unprecedented times now, we will be using journals to relate our thoughts, questions, and concerns across the days.     THE NETHERLANDS 2020 INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM REPORT Executive Summary The constitution prohibits religious discrimination and protects the freedom of individuals to profess their religion or belief. It is a crime to engage in public speech inciting religious hatred. In a January letter to parliament, Minister of Social Affairs and Employment Wouter Koolmees expressed the cabinet’s concern regarding the influence of Salafist organizations that have negative views of Dutch society, the rule of law, the participation of Muslims in society, and generally those who do not agree with them. Parliament continued to pressure the government to counter the foreign funding of mosques and Islamic institutions to stop the influence of Salafist and radical ideas. Muslim, Jewish, and Christian groups stated that a parliamentary report on foreign funding released on June 25 did not make a clear distinction between the small number of “ultra-orthodox” Muslim groups and the majority of Muslims active in mainstream society. Authorities rarely enforced the law banning full-face coverings in schools, hospitals, public transportation, and government buildings, but the nongovernmental organization (NGO) Report Islamophobia stated the “burqa ban” led to a wave of physical and verbal abuse against Muslims, and it called on parliament to reconsider the law. Local and national security officials continued to work with Jewish and Muslim communities to increase security at religious sites. Politicians from some parties made anti-Islam statements during the year that were protected by constitutional provisions on free speech. On January 22, King Willem-Alexander attended the Fifth World Holocaust Forum in Jerusalem, and on January 26, Prime Minister Mark Rutte apologized on behalf of the government for doing too little to protect Dutch victims of the Holocaust.

Frank (versie c) Vooraf Anne Frank hield van 12 juni 1942 tot 1 augustus 1944 een dagboek bij. Ze schreef haar dagboekbrieven alleen voor zichzelf tot ze in de lente van 1944 op Radio Oranje vanuit Londen de Nederlandse minister van Ondewijs in ballingschap hoorde spreken. Hij riep op na de oorlog alle getuigenissen van het lijden van het Nederlandse volk tijdens de Duitse bezetting te verzamelen en te publiceren. Als voorbeeld noemde hij onder andere dagboeken. Onder de indruk van die toespraak besloot Anne Frank om na de oorlog een boek uit te geven. Haar dagboek moest daar voor de basis vormen. Ze begon haar dagboek te bewerken en te herschrijven, corrigeerde, liet passages weg die ze niet interessant vond en voegde er uit haar herinnering andere aan toe. Tegelijkertijd schreef ze verder aan haar oorspronkelijke dagboek, dat versie a wordt genoemd, ter onderscheiding van versie b, het bewerkte tweede dagboek. Versie a en versie b zijn opgenomen in de appendix van dit boek. Anne Franks laatste notitie is van 1 augustus 1944. Op 4 augustus werden de acht onderduikers door de ‘Grüne Polizei’ ingerekend. Miep Gies en Bep Voskuijl brachten de aantekeningen van Anne al op de dag van de arrestatie in veiligheid. Miep Gies bewaarde ze in een lade van haar bureau en overhandigde ze ongelezen aan Otto Frank, Annes vader, toen uiteindelijk vaststond dat Anne niet meer leefde. Otto Frank besloot na rijp beraad de wens van zijn overleden dochter te ver vullen en haar notities in boekvorm te publiceren.

Mit Ausstellungen und Bildungsangeboten erinnert das Zentrum an Anne Frank und ihr Tagebuch. Es schafft Lernorte, in denen sich Kinder und Jugendli- che mit Geschichte auseinandersetzen und mit ihrer heutigen Lebenswelt verbinden. Sie lernen gesellschaftliche Verantwortung zu übernehmen und sich für Freiheit, Gleichberechtigung und Demokratie zu engagieren. Das Anne Frank Zentrum zeigt eine ständige Ausstellung in Berlin und Wanderausstellungen in ganz Deutschland. Es setzt bundesweit Projekte um und entwickelt Materialien zur Auseinandersetzung mit der Geschichte des Nationalsozialismus und Holocaust sowie mit Antisemitismus, Rassismus und Diskriminierung heute. Das Anne Frank Zentrum hat seinen Sitz in Berlin und ist ein gemeinnütziger Verein. Das Zentrum ist als Träger der freien Jugend- hilfe anerkannt und Mitglied im Arbeitskreis deutscher Bildungsstätten.

    soeben erschienen: 12. Juni 1929 Maarsen, Jacqueline van * Ich heiße Anne, sagte sie, Anne Frank S. Fischer Verlag, 2004 (Biogr Emx Fra - 01E) Jacqueline van Maarsen: Für ein Jahr lang war sie Anne Franks Freundin. In Annes berühmt gewordenem Tagebuch ist sie "Jopie", der Anne u.a. auch zwei Briefe aus dem Versteck in einem Amsterdamer Hinterhaus schrieb. Briefe, die Jopie nie erreichen sollten. J.v.M. und ihre Familie standen ebenfalls auf den Deportationslisten. Heute ist sie 75 Jahre alt und beschreibt rückblickend das Amsterdam jener Zeit, wo sie und ihre Freundinnen aufwuchsen. Aus dem Inhalt: 1941 begegnet Jacqueline van Maarsen auf dem Jüdischen Lyzeum Anne Frank. Sie sind schon bald unzertrennliche beste Freundinnen: Sie machen ANNE FRANK WÄRE zusammen Hausaufgaben, lesen die gleichen Bücher, übernachten beieinander und gründen einen Mädchenclub. Als Anne eines Tages nicht HEUTE 75 JAHRE ALT mehr da ist, freut sich Jacqueline, da sie glaubt, dass die Franks in die Schweiz ausgereist seien. Erst nach dem Krieg berichtet ihr Otto Frank von Annes Schicksal. Jacqueline van Maarsen erzählt darüber hinaus die Geschichte ihrer Eltern, einer französischen Katholikin und einem niederländischen Juden, von ihren Kriegserlebnissen und wie sie selbst der drohenden Deportation entkam.
