Intro 1996 National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands The Fish and Wildlife Service has prepared a National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1996 National Summary (1996 National List). The 1996 National List is a draft revision of the National List of Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1988 National Summary (Reed 1988) (1988 National List). The 1996 National List is provided to encourage additional public review and comments on the draft regional wetland indicator assignments. The 1996 National List reflects a significant amount of new information that has become available since 1988 on the wetland affinity of vascular plants. This new information has resulted from the extensive use of the 1988 National List in the field by individuals involved in wetland and other resource inventories, wetland identification and delineation, and wetland research. Interim Regional Interagency Review Panel (Regional Panel) changes in indicator status as well as additions and deletions to the 1988 National List were documented in Regional supplements. The National List was originally developed as an appendix to the Classification of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the United States (Cowardin et al.1979) to aid in the consistent application of this classification system for wetlands in the field.. The 1996 National List also was developed to aid in determining the presence of hydrophytic vegetation in the Clean Water Act Section 404 wetland regulatory program and in the implementation of the swampbuster provisions of the Food Security Act. While not required by law or regulation, the Fish and Wildlife Service is making the 1996 National List available for review and comment. -
A New Species from Sichuan (China)
CARDAMINE XINFENII (BRASSICACEAE), A NEW SPECIES FROM SICHUAN (CHINA) IHSAN A. AL-SHEHBAZ1 Abstract. Cardamine xinfenii, a new species from southern Sichuan Province, is described and illustrated. It does not seem to be closely related to any of the known Asian species of the genus. It is easily distinguished by the scapose habit and by having slender stolons, 7–9-foliolate, strongly toothed basal leaves, spreading floral parts, and filiform, non-auriculate cauline leaves (bracts) subtending the base of lowermost 1 or 2 pedicels of the raceme. Keywords: Brassicaceae, Cardamine, China, Cruciferae, Sichuan. During my 2014 visit to the main herbaria in Sichuan clawed, 4–4.5 mm x 2.5–3 mm, spreading, apex obtuse; Province (China), CDBI and SZ, to work on the treatment stamens subequal, spreading; filament 2.5–3 mm; anthers of Brassicaceae (Cruciferae) for the Flora of Pan-Himalayas, yellowish brown, oblong, ca. 1 mm; median nectaries absent; the following new species of Cardamine L. was discovered. lateral nectaries oblong, to 0.5 mm; style in developing Unfortunately, no other collections of the species were found fruits 1–2 mm. The species has a disjunct but widespread range throughout North America, with eastern and western segregates separated by the Great Plains. In the east, it ranges from Nova Scotia south to Louisiana and west to Minnesota and Missouri. In the west, it ranges from British Columbia to California, east to Utah and Colorado. Although regarded as Globally Secure (G5), national ranks of N? in Canada and the United States indicate some uncertainly about its true conservation status in North America. It is listed as rare (S1 or S2) in 20% of the states and provinces in which it occurs. Floerkea is known from only 11 sites total in New England: three historic sites in Vermont (where it is ranked SH), one historic population in Massachusetts (where it is ranked SX), and four extant and three historic localities in Connecticut (where it is ranked S1, Endangered). The Flora Conservanda: New England ranks it as a Division 2 (Regionally Rare) taxon. Floerkea inhabits open or forested floodplains, riverside seeps, and limestone cliffs in New England, and more generally moist alluvial soils, mesic forests, springy woods, and streamside meadows throughout its range. -

The focal species of this study, Cardamine barbaraeoides, is a narrow Greek endemic that has been confused taxonomically since its original description. Based on a detailed multivariate morphometric study, we provide here a set of morphological characters that enables the reliable identification of this species. In addition, we present an identification key to C. barbaraeoides and related taxa. We have revised herbarium specimens and literature data on the occurrence of this species in Greece and ascertained that it occurs only in the Pindos mountains (the Southern Pindos and partly the Northern Pindos floristic regions). -

The genus has been arranged by species (geographic regions) worldwide, but no formal levels below the genus are recognized. Recent efforts to evaluate phylogenetic relationships have been performed at the global scale for about 20 percent of the species in the genus. The genus is recognized as having subtle and variable morphological characteristics to define species limits. Several nuclear and chloroplast DNA methods have been used to construct phylogenetic relationships within the genus. Incongruences between various phylogenetic trees indicate likely hybridization and/or hybrid origin of multiple species and a genus blurred with a reticulate evolutionary past. Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sequences were developed here and combined with other ITS sequences on Genbank for other North American species of Lepidium. Two phylogenetic trees were developed, one comparing North American and another dominated by Intermountain West species. -

Eckel, Missouri Botanical Garden, P.O. Box 299, St. Louis; M0.63166 ·. The genus Cardamine (Brassicaceae) in the Niagara Frontier Region has been represented by 10 species (Eckel 2012). The discovery of Cardamine hirsuta provides an eleventh. Cardamine hirsuta was not reported for the Niagara Frontier Region by Charles Zenkert in 1934 and was first mentioned for the Region by Zander and Pierce (1979) who listed it as a rare introduction and excluded it. Eaton and Schrot (1987) did not report it for the flora of Cattaraugus County. The species, as described by Linnaeus (Species Plantarum Vol. 2: p. 655. 1753,) was not reported for New York State by Homer House (1924). House noted that the report of Cardamine hirsuta in John Torrey's New York State Flora (1843) was actually Cardamine pensylvanica Muhl. ex Willd., a species that is now known to occur throughout the State (Weldy, et al., 2015). In Canada, Province of Ontario, the Regional Municipality of Niagara' comprises;}lluch gf the Niagara Frontier Region (which is an area with a radius of fifty miles from a point near the center of the City ofBuf(alo, NY). Oldham (2010) noted Cardamine hirsuta as an uncommon introduction "known from fl to 20 recently verified (post 1980) locations in the Niagara Regional Municipality;" another indicator (SE3) reports 21-80 ~ites. By the Niagara River, Oldham found a specimen, described as "an uncommon weed of open disturbed areas. -
