The ojectives of this activity are to: a. present reports of the regions on learning resources; b. discuss the background of/basis for the crafting of the proposed BLR Manual; c. conduct field validation of LR processes; and d. discuss and integrate recommendations and suggestions in the BLR Manual. The participants in this activity shall include the Curriculum and Learning Management Division CLMD) Chiefs, Regional Education Program Supervisors in-charge of Learning Resource Management Section, and one 1) Division LR Supervisor. Each region shall present their Accomplishment Report from January to July 2018 on learning resource processes carried out by the respective regions including those conducted by the school division offices. Please refer to the attached report template. All travelling, board and lodging, and other incidental expenses of the participants will be charged to BLR Funds. Travelling expense reimbursement of the participants which will be downloaded to the regional offices after the submission of the Certificate of Acceptance. In cases where the downloaded funds cannot cover the total travel expenses of participants, local funds are recommended to be used to augment the amount provided subject to usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations. All participants are expected to be at the venue on Tuesday, August 28, 2018. The first meal to be served is morning snack. Check-out is on Saturday, September 1, 2018 after breakfast. Tactaquin Head, Research and Documentation Section Veterans Memorial and Historical Division Philippine Veterans Affairs Office The Philippine Historic Past The Philippines, because of its geographical location, became embroiled in what historians refer to as a search for new lands to expand European empires – thinly disguised as the search for exotic spices. In the early 1400’s, Portugese explorers discovered the abundance of many different resources in these “new lands” heretofore unknown to early European geographers and explorers. The Portugese are quickly followed by the Dutch, Spaniards, and the British, looking to establish colonies in the East Indies. The Philippines was discovered in 1521 by Portugese explorer Ferdinand Magellan and colonized by Spain from 1565 to 1898. Following the Spanish – American War, it became a territory of the United States. On July 4, 1946, the United States formally recognized Philippine independence which was declared by Filipino revolutionaries from Spain. The Philippine Historic Past Although not the first to set foot on Philippine soil, the first well document arrival of Europeans in the archipelago was the Spanish expedition led by Portuguese Ferdinand Magellan, which first sighted the mountains of Samara. At Masao, Butuan, (now in Augustan del Norte), he solemnly planted a cross on the summit of a hill overlooking the sea and claimed possession of the islands he had seen for Spain. Magellan befriended Raja Humabon, the chieftain of Sugbu (present day Cebu), and converted him to Catholicism. After getting involved in tribal rivalries, Magellan, with 48 of his men and 1,000 native warriors, invaded Mactan Island.

Because of the controversial character of the book, the Philippine Government as such has refrained from pu- blishing it but it has been published instead by the College of Liberal Arts of the University of the Philippines. The volume bears as frontis- piece a letter from Tomas S. Fonacier, Dean of the College, under date of 32 May 1956 in which he calls the book "a public document which is of great value to a proper understanding of the cultural history of the Philippines!'     ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA REGIONAL RECOVERY PROGRAM 2020-2022 Regional Development Council Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Region IX 15 June 2020 MESSAGE The Corona Virus-19 (COVID-19) pandemic has caught all of us unaware. It has not only disrupted our normal daily lives but also caused damage to our economy, infrastructures, livelihood, agriculture, health and environment , among others. The different national and regional line agencies and local government units (LGUs) have been working relentlessly together to establish health protocols and guidelines to minimize the damage and lessen the impact of COVID-19 to the people and their means of living, and to save lives. The private sector is also doing its share as partner of the government during this crisis. As we are rebuilding our economy, we hope that the lessons we are learning from this pandemic would influence and transform us to a new and better normal way of living. The Zamboanga Peninsula Recovery Program (RRP) is intended to help the region recover from the impact of COVID-19. It will serve as the region’s blueprint towards rebuilding a resilient and better community. It includes an assessment of the extent of damage caused by the pandemic, the government’s response, the framework on how to go about rebuilding, and the proposed programs and projects for recovery. The RRP shall be undertaken through the collaboration among the line agencies, LGUs, the private sector and the citizenry. We recognize the efforts put together by the region’s stakeholders and their contribution in the formulation of the Regional Recovery Program in such a short period of time.
