  • Winning the Engagement War: Creating the Hotel of the Future with Ancillaries
WINNING THE ENGAGEMENT WAR: CREATING THE HOTEL OF THE FUTURE WITH ANCILLARIES Presented by + Winning the Engagement War: SKIFT REPORT 2018 2 Creating the Hotel of the Future With Ancillaries EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Hotel ancillaries, often known to travelers and travel businesses as the extra items — like rental cars, hotel room upgrades, spa visits, food delivery, and tours — that are bundled along with their rooms, already play an essential role in the sector’s merchandising, marketing, and revenue considerations. But even though ancillaries have always been an effective strategy to boost sales, they are no longer seen by hotel executives as a mere supplement to other travel products. Today, they are increasingly the main event. Following the lead of the airline industry, which in 2017 earned an estimated $82 billion worldwide from sales of ancillary products, hotel executives are realizing that they are no longer simply selling access to just rooms and beds. Instead, they are now travel gatekeepers and tastemakers, selling access to a universe of related experiences connected to dining, entertainment, spas, tours and activities, retail, local services, and more. Taking this more expansive view of hospitality offers hotel businesses a variety of business benefits, including increased revenue, a more detailed understanding of the wants and needs of their customers, and an ability to drive more repeat business and create loyal customers. But in order to capitalize on this vision, hotels will need adjust their current ancillary approach. This will involve a renewed focus on better personalizing the types of ancillary offers they promote to customers, using what they know about guests to deliver more meaningful bundles of products that align with customer needs.

  • How to Share Your Release with the World
MusicNSW’s Industry Essentials How to share your release with the world Prepared by GYROstream for MusicNSW Did you know more than 22,000 songs are uploaded to streaming services every day? Getting your music online can seem like a complicated task. It doesn’t have to be though. Below are some tips and tricks to help you navigate the best distribution path for you and your new tunes. What are digital music aggregators / distributors? Digital aggregators (also known as digital distributors) are companies that provide a means to distribute your music globally through digital music stores and streaming platforms. You can’t just upload a track directly to Spotify or Apple Music and have it streamed globally, you need to use a digital music aggregator. If you’re signed to a label, it’s more than likely they’ll distribute your music to Spotify, Apple, iTunes, YouTube Music and more for you, but if you’re independent, you can have exactly the same access to these platforms by using a digital aggregator. Aggregators make their money by charging upfront fees and/or charging a percentage of revenue earned from the streaming and download purchases of your music. In some cases, aggregators will also charge an ongoing annual fee to keep your content online. Who do they distribute to? Nearly all distributors will get your music to Apple, Spotify, Deezer, Youtube (ie. the major western platforms), which together cover a large portion of music listeners worldwide. Where things might differ is for the highly localised services that cater to their specific regions - eg.

2019 EDITION A detailed look at the state of the entertainment industry. April 2019 Michael Masnick, Leigh Beadon Published April, 2019 by the Copia Institute and CCIA. Dedicated to the public domain. 2019 EDITION A detailed look at the state of the entertainment industry. 1. Overview ........................ 2 2. Music ............................ 5 3. Video............................ 13 4. Books ........................... 25 5. Video Games .................... 32 6. Conclusion...................... 41 Sources.......................... 43 The Copia Institute // The Sky is Rising 2019 1 1. Overview In January of 2012, we released the very firstSky is Rising report, highlighting how — despite numerous doom and gloom stories about the impact of the internet on the creative communities — nearly all of the actual data showed tremendous, and often unprecedented, growth in both earnings and creative output. It was true that within those industries, there was a re-alignment, and some companies and some creators found it more difficult to meet those challenges, which often resulted in the stories suggesting an industry-wide impact. However, stepping back and looking at the data, frequently from the industry itself, showed that the sky wasn’t falling because of the internet — it was rising. While the original report looked at the global entertainment market, with specific explorations of music, books, videos and video games, in 2013 we did a followup exploring specific European markets more directly, and in 2014, the U.S. market alone. It has been over seven years since that first report, and plenty has changed, so it felt like time to revisit the original questions explored in that original report: how is the global market for entertainment faring — and is the sky now rising or falling? Has the internet decimated entertainment, or enabled a golden era? The data in this report show that, once again, the sky is rising.
