our first show at an Amherst youth center. Scott Helland’s brother Eric’s band Mace played; they became The Outpatients. Our first Boston show was with DYS, The Mighty COs and The AMERICA’S HARDCORE FU’s. It was very intense for us. We were so intimidated. Future generations will fuck up again THE OUTPATIENTS got started in 1982 by Deep Wound bassist Scott Helland At least we can try and change the one we’re in and his older brother Eric “Vis” Helland, guitarist/vocalist of Mace — a 1980-82 — Deep Wound, “Deep Wound” Metal group that played like Motörhead but dug Black Flag (a rare blend back then). The Outpatients opened for bands like EAST COAST Black Flag, Hüsker Dü and SSD. Hay At the grassroots, Appalachian music encompasses much more than traditional music genres, like old-time and bluegrass. While these prevailing musics continue to inform most popular and scholarly understandings of the region’s musical heritage, many contemporary scholars dismiss such narrow definitions of “Appalachian music” as exclusionary and inaccurate. Many researchers have, thus, sought to broaden current understandings of Appalachia’s diverse contemporary and historical cultural landscape as well as explore connections between Appalachian and other regional, national, and global cultural phenomena. In April 2009, I began participant observation and interviewing in an experimental music scene unfolding in downtown Boone, North Carolina. -

At this point in the band’s career, Curt’s songwriting had significantly matured, leaving no trace of the speedballing freaked-out punk from the band’s first disc. Drummer Derrick Bostrom noted that, after the lengthy Up On the Sun tour, “ no longer were we scruffy punks The Static Jacks by thestaticjacks making noise for the party-soundtrack of our peers, we were now the proprietors of a prosperous new franchise ”. Share Report Abuse Next Blog» Create Blog Sign In SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2011 THE STATIC JACKS PLAY MHOW ON JAN. 19TH Meat Puppets - "Huevos" CD Review (MVD Audio) DOWNLOAD : Meat Puppets - Live @ Variety Arts Center, Los Angeles, CA 1-22-88 Always a prolific band, The Meat Puppets followed the April 1987 release of the very accessible Mirage with Huevos , which came out just six months later. This time out, the band are going for a bluesy, riff-rock power trio sound akin to the James Gang or ZZ Top. In the liner notes for the reissue, Derrick Bostrom said: “ At this stage of our career, we weren’t punk enough for our old fans and we were too punk for our new ones...we decided we’d hit a ceiling with SST and developed the self-defeating attitude that as long as we were on an indie label, there wasn’t much sense in putting as much time and effort into out albums as we had with Mirage. For Huevos then, we took the directly opposite course: we vowed to finish the album in a week. “ The Static Jacks by thestaticjacks Like Mirage , Huevos is very accessible and, retrospectively, seems to pre-date the alt-rock explosion of the 90’s.
