According to a definition from the Southern Poverty Law Center, The Alternative Right, commonly known as the Alt-Right, is a set of far-right ideologies, groups and individuals whose core belief is that “white identity” is under attack by multicultural forces using “political correctness” and “social justice” to undermine white people and “their” civilization. Characterized by heavy use of social media and online memes, Alt-Righters eschew “establishment” conservatism, tend to be young, and embrace white ethno- nationalism as a fundamental value.

Our speaker, June Sager Speakman, will shed some light on this rising movement and the ideas it stands for. Dr. Speakman has taught at Roger Williams University since 1995. Her areas of expertise include American Politics, Public Policy, and Public Administration. She holds a B.A. in Economics from UMass/Amherst, an M.A. in Economics from the New School for Social Research, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from City University of New York. She has served for 10 years on the Barrington Town Council, and was president of the council. We will save a good amount of time for Q & A
