AFL Club Coaching Diversity program Practicum Placement 2016 The AFL and the AFL Coaches Association, together with Greater Western Sydney Giants, the Sydney Swans and the St Kilda Football Clubs, offers a unique opportunity for an emerging coach with a multicultural background to gain an invaluable experience in an AFL Club environment. The Objective of the program is to expose coaches to the elite environment, to energise their Professional Development and enable them to make a significant contribution in their Community Club. Benefits The coach will: § Gain experience in an AFL Club § Learn the components of craft and contribute to the player’s development in these areas § Be involved in video analysis and coding § Be actively engaged with the club during training and on game day This is a volunteer position. The club’s commitment is to provide experience that exposes the individual to the coaching methods of AFL Football. § The successful applicant will be provided with appropriate club attire and any other resources that are necessary for them to successfully undertake their role § Reimbursement for travel and other expenses will be paid Eligibility To be considered for the placement, applicants would need to: § Be currently coaching at Youth to Senior level (U15’s to open age) § Have at least one parent, or themselves be born in a country from the Middle East, Africa or Asia, consistent with the AFL’s Next Generation Academies program § Currently hold at least a level 1 AFL Coach Accreditation Availability The individual would need to be available for at least two days per week, including during the main training times. Times will be negotiated with the club based on the individual’s circumstances. The opportunity will be offered for the remainder of the 2016 season. Personal Qualities Volunteers will: § Be reliable and committed to the program for the duration of the season § Be hard working § Have the capacity to understand the game and the general principles of coaching § Be eager to embrace the opportunity and be proactive in their involvement with the club § Have the capacity to be involved in coaching within community football or AFL Talent Pathways, following the placement. § Ideally have current coaching and/or teaching experience Applications An Expression of Interest detailing the following: 1. A one-page cover letter expressing your interest and addressing the personal qualities 2. A resume of not more than 2 pages, highlighting your sport and/or coaching experiences 3.
