Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program and Womxn Uniting and Fighting Coalition are sponsoring the following VIRTUAL events for Women’s History Month DATE: March 4, 2021 TIME: 4:00 p.m.—5:00 p.m. Please register at this link: RSVP WGSS Event 1 Dr. Erika Marin-Spiotta “Beyond the Leaky Pipeline and Glass Ceiling Metaphors: Gender- Based Experiences in Academia” Dr. Marin-Spiotta will focus on women, but bring in non-binary gender, and intersectionality when talking about the effects of bias, harassment, bullying and discrimination as exclusionary behaviors that create hostile workplace climates. She is Professor of Geography at UW-Madison where she leads the Biogeochemistry and Biogeography Lab, with a focus on how changes in climate and land use alter terrestrial ecosystem processes, such as nutrient and carbon cycling. She is the lead principal investigator of ADVANCEGeo Partnership, a program funded by the National Science Foundation, to transform workplace climate in the geosciences and other scientific fields through the development of bystander intervention and research ethics training. DATE: March 30, 2021 TIME: 4:00 p.m..—5:00 p.m. Please register at this link: RSVP WGSS Event 2 Dr. Lupe Davidson “Making a Case for Accompaniment: Grassroots Women’s Organizations and Community Based Participatory Research in Northern Uganda” Dr. Lupe Davidson is Associate Dean for Social Justice, Faculty Development and Innovation for the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences and a Woodburn Professor of Women's and Gender Studies. Dr. Davidson received her Ph. D. in Rhetoric from Duquesne University. She is the au- thor of Black Women, Agency, and the New Black Feminism. Picture a Scientist: Is a film co-sponsored with The Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, Women and Gender Minorities in STEM Student Organization. Participants view the film below at their own convenience between the dates of March 13- 15. An optional discussion, facilitated by Rose-Marie Avin, Rae Langes, and recent Math and WGSS Grad, Bridget Lee will be held via Zoom on Monday, March 22, from 4-5pm.
