Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: an Analysis Into Graphic Design's
Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time. -

The thesis in whose direction it is argumented is the following: a) the concept of identity retrieved in psychology, sociology, philosophy; b) the vision of the Romanians about themselves sequential exposed in the pages of the magazine „Dilema Veche” (“Old Dilemma”) in the period September-October 2006. Recently appeared on the scientific scene, the concept of identity is an essential component of the social contemporary existence. Romanian masters discover with sadness that in 2006 elements of cultural and identity, tradition are still imported and that’s why, badly understanding democracy and liberty, Romanians allow themselves anything: gregarious spirit, colloquial talking, violence, brutish, arbitrariness. -

Signed Date 22 October 2014 Abstract This thesis explores the significance of national identity in shaping the trajectory of Romania’s foreign policy between 1990 and 2007. It explains why and how Romania’s Euro-Atlantic national identity was subject to re- definitions and discursive dialogue prior to the European Union accession on 1 January 2007, as well as how and why these identity re-definitions influenced the state’s foreign policy decisions. The research employs a multi- dimensional framework of national identity, which draws from four academic literatures related to: constructivism, nationalism studies, collective memory and self-esteem and international recognition. -

Public Theology: Historical Milestones
SOCIAL AND EDUCATIONAL STUDIES Public Theology: Historical Milestones Teofil Stanciu Abstract: Public theology is a relatively new theological field, but its themes and concerns are as old as the interaction between the Christian community and society. Different ages prompted different emphasis and approaches. This by far is not a way of pretending that public theology always existed in some form. This article is a biographical and historical investigation in tune with the defining features and interests of public theology and public theologians. The selection of the figures discussed here – without accounting for a complete history – aims to reflect the theoretical, practical, contextual and ecumenical aspects of public theology. Keywords: Christian history, common good, public life, social action, social ethics, public theology The historical approach is one of the three directions or types of public theology, according to Harold Breitenberg1. In following this approach, theological researcher would look for “some key theologians and theological discourses and their contributions to the formation of public theology” (Kim, 2017: 40). Such a task is not concerned only with legitimizing a relatively new theological field, but also with exploring themes, conceptions, actions, models, methods, seminal reflections that predate the emerging of public theology as academic discipline. For the purposes of this article, we will draw on previous undertakes such as Kim’s chapter (2017: 40–66 ) in A Companion to Public Theology, a historical excursus of Duncan B. Forrester (2004: 5 – 19) or the six stories about the origins and development of public theology as told by Dirk J. Smit (2013: 11–22). In defining the meaning of public theology that will be taken into account for this paper, alongside with the perspective of “critical, reflective and reasoned engagement of theology in society to bring the kingdom of God, which is for the sake of the poor and marginalized” PhD Candidate, “Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad, [email protected] 1 E. -

REEIfication NEWS FROM THE INDIANA UNIVERSITY RUSSIAN AND EAST EUROPEAN INSTITUTE David L. Ransel, Director Mark Betka, Editor Vol. 26, No. 2 April 2002 2001-2002 Year in Review By David Ransel The academic year 2001-2002 began with the shock of September 11 and the awakening of a complacent government and public to the importance of international studies. Officials and ordinary citizens finally understood that knowledge of other peoples was crucial to the nation’s security. At Indiana University we had not yielded to the triumphalism that set in since the end of the Cold War. Despite a decline in government and private spending on inter- national studies, IU’s Russian and East European Institute continued to train Features a large number of specialists on the region and in recent years placed more REEI Year in Review 1 than 100 graduates in positions of responsibility in government, international exchange organizations, and region-based aid agencies.
