The Development Rugby Squad played their first game of the season with an impressive 38-17 win over Tring School 1stXV. This is the first indication of what an exciting senior rugby side we should have in the coming 2019-20 season. Highlight for U15's so far this season is a 36-19 victory away at Merchant Taylors school which has given the boys some excellent confidence heading into the rest of the season. U14's were part of the U14 County Rugby tournament which was hosted by Watford Boys this year. On Wednesday 10th October, 16 Hertfordshire based schools played in the one day tournament held at the New Field, it was an excellent occasion for all involved. Particular highlight for the U14's so far is a hard fought 12-10 victory over St George's Harpenden, avenging a heavy defeat last season. U13's are playing an exciting brand of rugby and have had some great successes in their opening matches of the season with a number of victories. A historic Year 7 Inter-House Rugby tournament saw Rée House win the A team Lectures and tournament, competing in the competition for the first time! Groves were the overall winners of the tournament. There was some excellent rugby on show and we are very Assemblies excited for what the future holds for the new Year 7 cohort. U12 fixtures will begin after New School Year the half-term break with A, B, C and D teams all in action. Each day a different theme in the school library was celebrated: Monday was the Library Quiz, a great turn out with over 50 boys taking part. Tuesday a display was created showing off our school history, put together by the History Department with our archivist. Wednesday Mrs Rafferty introduced ‘Meditation and Mindfulness’, which had an amazing effect on the boys who took part. Thursday PRE launched, with the Librarian, an inaugural ‘WGBS Philosophy Literacy Award’. It was a great week, the pupils fully Friday was our last Hurrah!... Our Mind to be Kind project continues with all boys invited to take the WBGS Mind to be Kind Pledge: I pledge to the following: 1. It examines factors influencing the social composition of schools. A total of 23 LEAs completed interviews about their secondary school admissions arrangements The four case study LEAs have significantly different market scenarios. Results show that recent national education policy has not been evenly implemented across LEAs. A combination of organizational, structural, and demographic factors have muted much of the potential impact of school reforms on school admissions. Normative patterns of school use have not been substantially affected by the market reforms or the administrative actions of LEAs. LEAs remain important arenas within which school choice operates because they define kinds of choice available to parents in their administrative boundaries.

  • NEWS LETTER July 2010 Dear Parents As
HITCHIN BOYS’ SCHOOL A Specialist Technology & Language College NEWS LETTER July 2010 Dear Parents As always at the end of the school year there are a number of colleagues to whom we have to say farewell. Unusually, even before we reached the end of a term, we had to say goodbye to a colleague who I met just over two years ago in Australia. One of the teacher supply agencies invited me to interview teachers there who were looking to work in the UK and one of the people I interviewed I decided would be a good person to have here at HBS. As a result Mr Kidd joined our maths department. He joined us a little after the beginning of the Autumn term but unfortunately his visa did not allow him to remain working here through to the end of this term. So, via various European destinations, he is on his way back to Aus. I thanked him most sincerely for his teaching and his generous commitment to the school, despite knowing that he was only here for a limited time. He really was a pleasure to know and have as a colleague. We wish him a safe and enjoyable journey home and every success in the future. Also from the maths department we say goodbye to Mr de la Forde. Last year he was here on supply for a while and when we needed a mathematician this year I was grateful that he was prepared to stay longer. A scientist by trade, as it were, I am grateful to him for taking on the maths teaching and we wish him all the best in his next post.

Dacorum Association of Secondary School Headteachers D.A.S.S.H. April 2021 Dear Parents/Carers Arrangements for the end of Year 11 and Year 13 courses You will be aware of the Department for Education’s decision about the awarding of this summer’s GCSE and A level grades. Following the cancellation of public exams, this year’s grades will be generated by teacher assessment. However, it is important to note that, in line with official guidance, each school will administer a rigorous system of moderation and quality assurance. This will include some Dacorum schools working together to facilitate the moderation process. Schools need to submit grades to the exam boards by 18th June and this date, therefore, informs the decision about ‘leaving dates’ for Year 11 and Year 13 students. All schools in our Dacorum group have agreed that these students will complete their studies at the May half term break, with a last day in school being either 27th or 28th May; each school will have its own particular arrangements for each year group. However, we would like to build in a cushion between the last day of school and the submission of exam grades. This may be useful if an individual student has missed an earlier assessment task and would provide an opportunity for that student to catch up. We would, therefore, ask that all students in Year 11 and Year 13 ensure they are available to come into their school during the period 7th - 18th June, should the need arise. Specific dates will be communicated by each school.
