India has recognized this fact and has embarked upon a comprehensive strategy to address the concerns of energy security of India. The need for a resource center was anticipated to keep pace with the fast developing and competitive energy industry, to plan for the future and to continuously build requisite intellectual capital and human resource skills. Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University’s 100 acre campus is located in Gandhinagar, which is the capital city of Gujarat and located 23 Km North from a well developed city called Ahmedabad with a population of 8 million people. The city is famous for its remarkable cultural development and social life. PDPU offers multiple courses ranging from engineering, arts and management along with maximum exposure and opportunities to its students through various national and International exchange programs with Best Universities worldwide. For development of its faculties and staff the University endeavors for various Joint Exchange and Research programs. HISTORY OF PDPU Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) has been established by GERMI as a Private University through the State Act enacted on 4th April, 2007. The University offers programs to address the need for trained human resources in the domains of Science, Technology, Management and Humanities. It intends to broaden the opportunities for students and professionals to develop core subject knowledge which are duly complemented by leadership training interventions, thereby helping the students to make a mark in the global arena. This objective is being further addressed through a number of specialized and well-planned undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral programs as well as intensive research projects. SCHOOLS@PDPU School of Petroleum Management offers M.B.A. in (a). Energy & Infrastructure and (b). General Management , Ph.D., Post Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Management for Executives (PGDPM-X) and Management Development Programmes. School of Petroleum Technology offers B.Tech., M.Tech. and Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering. It is academically engaged in creating a high quality talent pool for the hydrocarbon sector across the entire value chain. School of Technology offers B.Tech. in the fields of Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, & Chemical Engineering, besides the Ph.D. Program. It also offers M.tech in Nuclear & Solar Engineering. ABOUT SCHOOL OF LIBERAL STUDIES (SLS) The School of Liberal Studies is one of the constituent schools of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University that offers four years Bachelor degree program in B.A. (Honours), B.B.A. (Honours), Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), and Bachelor of Science (Honours) along with a Diploma in Liberal Studies. Established in 2009, SLS ranks among the country’s pioneer establishments that impart higher level education in this unique field. The School has successfully started its B.Com. (Hons.) program in 2013 and B.Sc. (Hons.) program in 2016. The focus of SLS is to act as a knowledge center for students who aim to pursue multi- disciplinary studies and cover an expansive base of varied knowledge in fields such as Languages, Literature, Aesthetics, Management, Entrepreneurship, Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Pure Sciences, Political Science, and General Studies. At the same time, SLS helps students to develop specialized understanding of disciplines by covering ‘majors’ such as Business Administration, Economics, English Literature, Public Administration, Psychology and International Relations. At SLS, our sincere endeavor is to promote intellectual growth, creative expression, analytical thinking, and rational thought through a comprehensive teaching methodology, myriad of courses, and a sound infrastructure. Situated 25 kilometers from Ahmedabad, the sprawling and lush campus of the School and University boast of a state-of-the-art academic infrastructure and the latest in technology that collectively enable our students to get a robust educational foundation and evoke pride in their alma mater. Students at SLS study 30 subjects in the first two years of their degree, exposing them to wide-ranging subject areas, thereby giving them an opportunity to choose their area of specialization or ‘major’ after due consideration and thought. In the last two years of the degree, students complete rigorous coursework in their declared major and minor subjects. The pedagogical methodology of the school is based in class room interaction, research projects, group work and presentations, real-world experiences through internships, cross cultural collaboration with international universities, and workshops. Our strategic partnerships with The University of Houston, University of Oklahoma, University of Tulsa, and the American Jewish Committee provide our students experience of international culture, academic life and the latest developments in their area of study. In addition, through our many award winning student activities, organizations and clubs, students get the opportunity to explore different extracurricular aspects of college life, which include sports, dramatics, Model United Nations, and inter college competitive events, among several others. Overall, our teaching method ensures that students acquire a well-rounded education and come out of college as intellectuals and confident leaders of tomorrow that are equipped to handle a multitude of challenges of a dynamic global workplace. The School also offers Master’s degree programs in Public Administration, International Relations and English Literature as well as Ph.D. programs. NCC AT PDPU In 2012 boys NCC troop at PDPU was opened under 9 Gujarat boys battalion, Ahmedabad. 50 vacancies for boys wing was given to PDPU. Mr. Anilkumar Markana had been selected to lead the boys NCC troop at PDPU. Mr. Markana had undergone for three months training at Officers Training Academy, Kamtee, Nagpur. He had successfully completed the training and got commission as Lieutenant in 2015. He had achieved DG battalion at the end of the training. In 2015, girls NCC troop at PDPU was opened under 1 Gujarat Girls Battalion, Ahmedabad. 50 vacancies for girls division had been given to PDPU. Ms. Khushali Purohit was given charge to lead the NCC girls wing. As Ms. Purohit was a C certificate holder she got direct commissioned as Lieutenant rank. She had undergone three months training at Officers Training Academy at Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh in 2015. She had completed her training with many awards in Leadership, Yoga IP, National Integration Awareness Program, Rifle shooting. She had been awarded by Commandant Medal and Sharma Cup for displaying excellence in leadership qualities. EXPOSURE TO NCC AT SLS In 2015, the School had announced ‘Exposure to NCC’ as a compulsory subject for first year BA/BBA (Hons.), B.Com. (Hons.), and B.Sc. (Hons.) students. Objective of the Program Citizens build the community and the community shapes the citizenry. For youth of today, belongingness to the nation is imperative. The geo-political borders of the nation are guarded by brave soldiers but it is also an obligation of all citizens to contribute to the unity and integrity of the country. The Exposure to NCC is designed to inculcate the spirit of nation building in its larger implications and to instill the willingness to serve the nation.
