It is like a shining star in the north-west region of the N Union of Myanmar. Panhsaung is located on the road linking Ledo in India and Kunming in the People’s Republic of China ➝ via Myanmar. Famous as the Ledo Road, it was built during the World War II. The town lies near Hukaung valley or Pangsau pass. The Ledo Road passes through towns and villages in Kachin State and upper Sagaing Division. Towns including Tanai and Kamaing in Myanmar are located on the road. The land surface of Hukaung valley is flat, with a lot of natural watercourses flowing through it. The land is covered with thick forests. The torrents of mountain streams are strong in the rainy season. Thus, they change their courses several times. The area of Panhsaung region is 257,262.10 acres. Lying between north latitudes 27 degree and 28 degree and east longitudes 96 degree and 97 degree, the region is situated at 3,520 feet above sea level on Pakkoi mountain range. Lying in the east of Nanyun, the region is bordering India in the west and touching Putao Township in the north. It rains in Panhsaung the whole year and the annual rainfall of the town is between 120 inches and 150 inches.
