Hook Village Show Hook Village Show – Sunday, 10th September 2017, noon – 5.00pm

****************************************************************************************************************************************

South Warnborough

Film Season at Ridley Hall

The Trustees of Ridley Hall have acquired the ability to show films. The regular film night will be the 3rd Wednesday of the month;

Village Fete 28th June 11:00-14:00 include all of your favourite stalls and activities, with plenty to do for the children and lots for the adults to delve into, including a Hog Roast, Plant Sale, Bric-a-Brac stall and cricket trials.

South Warnborough Off-Road Duathlon (SWORD) event – meaning we can all cheer on entrants in the Duathlon - which we hope will include many individuals and teams of all ages from the village. The Duathlon does not require you to be an athlete - taking it slow, or forming a team and doing just a short leg each is encouraged; just give it a go and get behind this new village event. For more details see the new SWAGA website (see below).

See www.swaga.co.uk for more details on the SWORD and how to enter.

Fun Run Everyone is welcome to take part in the Fun Run (or walk… or wheel…), which will start at 11.30am on the SWAGA grounds. Fancy dress is encouraged, and all age groups are invited to take part. The Fun Run is open to entrants of all ages and abilities. It will be a leisurely run along a picturesque 2km village route starting by the SWAGA grounds, with entrants encouraged to adopt fancy dress if they would like to.

All finishers will receive a Medal and to take part, all you need to do is turn up on the day, pay a small entrance fee (which will go towards funding the village’s Speed Watch campaign) then line up with the rest of the runners (starting at 11.30am).

South Warnborough Horticultural Society This is a pretty informal group who share an interest in all things gardening. The equally informal committee meet occasionaly to organise a trip or event If anyone in South Warnborough would like to join a very friendly and sociable commitee or has any suggestions for activities that involve gardens please contact; Penny Raynor 01256 862541 Heather Garrard 01256 862322 Peter Humphrey 07711624137

The South Warnborough Gentlemens Working Club SWGWC, is a group of blokes who occasionally work on projects round the village. It started with a group of men who volunteered to help with the refurbishment, renovation and modernisation of the Parish Church of St. Andrews. This club continues to thrive helping to maintain St Andrews and the church yard and contributing to other community projects when asked. It meets for lunch in the Poacher every 2nd Wednesday of the month. New members, who are willing to give some of their time, skills, labour and time to support community projects, are always welcome; simply join the other members at the Poachers.

John Drake-lee co-ordinates lunches and can be contacted at [email protected] or on 01256 86142

South Warnborough Art Group Swag is for artists of any ability who enjoy painting. They meet on Wednesdays mornings (as they have done for many years) at the Village Hall. The meetings roughly follow term times and the next session is on the 13th January 2010 at 10.00

For more information please contact Diana Hitchcock on 01420 562438

Ladies Lunch Group This is a friendly, informal group who meet for lunch on the 4th Wednesday of every month. Every one is welcome, female being the only qualification. To join in the interesting chat and sharing of views all you need to do is to let Veronica know and turn up.

The South Warnborough under 3’s A new group for parents and toddlers. Meet on Fridays 2- 3.30 pm in The Heritage Room, St Andrew’s Church All under three’s welcome – bring your mum, dad, grandparents or childminder! Nice refreshments will be provided.

For more information, please contact Kathy on 862657

The South Warnborough Bridge Club Meets every Tuesday evening [7:15 for a 7:30 p.m. start] in the Ridley Hall, South Warnborough. We have a varied bridge programme that follows a typical monthly pattern, such as :

 First Tuesday in the month, Rubber Bridge.  Second & third [& fifth] Tuesdays, Duplicate Bridge.  Fourth Tuesdays, Improvers' Course - below item below.

We have a local membership coming from several of our neighbouring villages etc. and normally we have five or six tables of players at each of our meetings.

For more information, please contact : David Day - tel 862467.

New Improvers' Course The Improvers' Course is the natural progression from our Beginners' Course that was given by Brian over the 12 month period in 2010/2011 and it will appeal also to those who attended the first Improvers' Course but want to brush up on the various points it covered.

Our approach is meant to be flexible so if you want to simply play and not attend the course, we will have tables set up so that you can do that.

New members are also very welcome so if you want to play bridge in a friendly, local club - with the added bonus of brushing up your old skills with our Improvers' Course - please come and join us!

Teaching Bridge To Young People South Warnborough Bridge Club is inviting young people from all the neighbouring villages to learn bridge - the greatest card game of them all. The teaching programme will follow our proven beginners’ course and will be open to all youngsters from 11/12 years onwards. It will be presented by instructors who have CRB check clearance. There will be no charge and the playing equipment will be provided. The time and place of the course has yet to be decided taking into account the number of interested youngsters and their availabilities etc. but we hope to start in the next few months. At this point we are looking for young people to express their interest in learning to play bridge.

This is a new initiative for our Bridge Club and we hope that it will strike a chord with young people, and interested parents, in our area For further information, please contact David Day on tel. 01256 862467. The South Warnborough Teapot Fancy a cup of tea, a scone or cake and a chat? The SW Teapot will be in full flow at the Village Shop from 3.30pm – 5pm on the second Monday of every month.

Everyone is welcome, the more the merrier. Please just drop in, even if you only have half an hour to spare.

SWAGS The South Warnborough Amiable Golf Society, SWAGS are an informal group with a wide range of handicaps, despite this they play golf on a number of local courses for excersise, fun and companionship. If you would like to join an amiable group of folk and have a game of golf please join the SWAGS. The group were started as an offshoot of the South Warnborough Gentlemans Working Club, a group of blokes who try and support the village by helping with voluntary projects. They meet for lunch on the second Wednesday of each month. If you would like to join the lunch (all men of the local villages are invited), please contact John Drake-Lee at [email protected] or on 01256 861424

Geocaching, Geocaching is a free real-world outdoor treasure hunt. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using a smartphone or GPS and can then share their experiences online. Visit www.geocaching.com for more details. Walking for Health Health walks are aimed at anyone who would like to walk at a gentle pace in a safe and social setting. We especially encourage people who may be rehabilitating after an illness who would like to begin to take gentle exercise, or who feel they would like to meet people. We provide short walks for those who are less able and everyone can walk at their own pace. We are currently averaging 120 walkers a week come rain or shine! The walks are approximately 50 minutes long, are led by trained Volunteer Walk Leaders and require no specialist walking clothes, other than stout shoes. At the end of the walk there are refreshments and a chance for a chat.
