“The Honeymoon Express”

, With AL JOLSON and Big Winter Garden Co.

“The Honeymoon Express,” the overland excursion of joy, with its human cargo of dancers, comedians, singers and queenly chorus, starts on its fourth and last week at the Shubert Theatre next Monday, Nov. 24th. Heading the large dele- gation of entertainers will be Mr. A1 Jolson, the black diamond of theatredom and the Winter Garden’s funny-bone par excellence. This musical play, doubtless the most spectacular every7 produced at the Winter Garden, is crowded with novelties of every description including a realistic race be- tween an auto and a train. This gives the piece a melodramatic tinge — three minutes of thrills. The other 177 are moments of delicious joy, syncopated music, Waybumian dancing and visions of lovely women. Mr. Jolson will “oblige” with volumes of new stuff in addition to playing his first real part. Like all Winter Garden productions, “The Honeymoon Express” aims to appeal to both the eye and ear, as there are numerous colorful pictures, no end of dancing, and plenty of catchy songs. Not satisfied with what may be styled “production numbers,” there is incorporated in the play a wonderful and vital Bacchanale staged by Theodore Kosloff. For this there is special music by A. Borodine. By way of contrast to the subdued richness of this number the brilliantly costumed “Soldier Man” and “Raggydore” numbers will satisfy those who prefer the more modern treatment. What never fails to arouse the audience to a high pitch of enthusiasm is the race between a train of cars and an automobile. There is a faint glimmer of distant lights Vay up on the mountain side. Through the devious turns of the road and down the valleys race the objects on to the level stretch, into the tunnels and finally right down to the footlights with a rush and a roar. Mail orders will receive prompt attention. In addition to the regular Wednesday and Saturday matinees next week, there will be a special matinee on Fridays. At the Wednesday and Friday matinees the best seats are only one dollar.
