Kinsey’s research team begins Kinsey and his colleagues embarked 1938 conducting sex behavior interviews on an unprecedented research agenda that would transform the world’s understanding of human sexuality. Faculty Spotlight

Dr. Amanda Gesselman is the Associate Director of Research, Anita Aldrich Endowed Research Scientist, Head of the Research Analytics and Methodology Core at the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, and a Research Fellow at the Rural Center for AIDS/STD Prevention. She is a social–developmental psychologist, methodologist, and statistician. Her research explores the dynamics of intimate relationships, with speci c focus on how partners impact one another’s mental and physical health, and how outside forces (e.g., technology, social stigma, societal norms) in uence behavior. In 2018, she co-authored the largest SexTech study to date in collaboration with the health app CLUE, collecting data from over 140,000 respondents in 198 countries on how they used technology in their relationships and sexual lives. Her 2019 study on emoji use as a ective signals in relationships was featured in both print and internet media around the world. She is currently co-leading a multi-study project entitled “Loneliness, Mobile-Mediated Intimacy, and Psychosocial Well-being” which examines how technology facilitates human connection and can provide a foundation for building intimacy that is critical for health and happiness.

Dr. Zoë D. Peterson holds a joint faculty appointment with the Kinsey Institute and the School of Education’s Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology. She also serves as the Director of the Kinsey Institute Sexual Assault Research Initiative. Dr. Peterson researches sexual assault, sexual coercion, and sexual consent, studying men’s and women’s experiences as victims and perpetrators of sexual aggression. She has published over 60 journal articles and book chapters, and her research has been funded by Research participants the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, recruited from countries the Centers for Disease Control, and the Social Science Research Council. Dr. Peterson is 199 a licensed clinical psychologist and editor of the Wiley Handbook of Sex Therapy. She was elected and is currently serving as President of the Society for the Scienti c Study of Sexuality, the preeminent society for sexuality researchers, educators, and practitioners. Dr. Stephen W. Porges founded and directs the Kinsey Institute’s Traumatic Stress Research Consortium (TSRC), an interdisciplinary and international group of scientists and trauma therapists. The TSRC seeks to understand how trauma compromises mental and physical health by documenting the impact of trauma and data from across abuse on health, relationships, and sexuality, investigating the over from ages neurophysiological, psychological, developmental, and social racial, ethnic, processes through which trauma disrupts and compromises the sexual orientation, human experience, and identifying treatments that therapists and survivors have endorsed to as bene cial. Through generous recent gifts from the Dillon Fund, Chaja Stiftung Foundation 160,000 + and gender backgrounds.
