Abstract. The sediments of the Lovec Urgonian Group are very rich in bivalves, gastropods, echinoderms, brachiopods, corals, chaetetids, sponges, algae, but quite rare in cephalopods. For that reason, the outcrops of some cephalopods in Magara Tongue of the Balgarene Formation and in the Debelcovo-Mladen Tongue of the Em en Forma, tion at the village of Pusevo, Veliko Ta.rnovo District are interesting. They all date the Barremian Age. Introduction The sediments of the Lovec Urgonian Group are very rich in bivalves, gastropods, echinoderms, brachiopods, corals, chaetetids, sponges, algae, but rare in cephalopods (X p H c 'I e B, 1966; H H K o JI o B, 1969). For that reason the findings of some cephalopods with heteromorph ammonite among them in the sediments of the Magara Tongue of the Balgarene Formation represent special interest. The locality is situated at the Drjankov Hill, to the north from the village of Pusevo, Veliko Tarnovo District (fig. 1) . The Magara Tongue of the Balgarene Formation in this section is represented by clayey slightly silty marls with lens of coral limestones. Rare intercalations of calcareous sandstones and sandy oolitic limestones are met in the top part, changing in aphanite and organogenic limestones of the Debelcovo-Mladen Tongue of the Emen Formation to the west. In a separate outcrop, to the south-east from the section studied and to the east from the village ofPusevo, the Barremian ammonite species Valdedorsella haugi B res k., was found in the limestones of the Debelcovo-Mladen Tongue years ago (I-I H K o JI o B, 1969, fig. 2). The character of the Magara Tongue of the Drjankov Hill is determined by the marls predominating the section. Lens of coral limestones are spread among them without any regularity. Usually, most of the lens are parallel or subparallel to the layers, while some of 61 19 · 0 fp 2p 3f1 km I· , - ; ..,.. ._,..r ·' ·- ._. .- ·1 Fig. I. The thickness of the sediments in the outcrop is 20-25 m increasing from west to the east. The studies association of cephalopod species determined the Late Barremian Age of the locality. The specimens described are preserved in the Museum of Palaeontology at the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" (MP - US). Discoidal compressed involute conchs with average size and narrow umbilicus. The whorl section is considerably higher than wide. The lateral flanks are flat and definitely convergent towards the ventral area, at the end of which edges are formed. These edges are more distinct in the last whorl. In the initial whorls the ventral area is tabulate. By increasing of the shell, a distinct furrow with fine median keel is observed. The burrow itself is surrounded by well defined ventral board edges. The suture line is with a wide and shallow lateral lobe and relatively narrow and slightly curved saddle. C om p a r i s o n s. Heminautilus sanctaecrucis Conte is the closest to H. lallierianus (d' Orb.) differing from it by the development of median keel, as well as for its wider and shallow lateral lobe of the suture line. H. saxbii (M o r r i s) is with a flat and smooth ventral area, narrower and strongly curved lateral lobe and more oblique lateral saddle of the suture line. D i s t r i b u t i o n. • Stratigraphic Implications of a New Lower Cretaceous Ammonoid Fauna from the Puez Area (Valanginian – Aptian, Dolomites, Southern Alps, Italy)
Geo.Alp, Vol. 3, S. 55–83, 2006 STRATIGRAPHIC IMPLICATIONS OF A NEW LOWER CRETACEOUS AMMONOID FAUNA FROM THE PUEZ AREA (VALANGINIAN – APTIAN, DOLOMITES, SOUTHERN ALPS, ITALY) Alexander Lukeneder1 & Christian Aspmair2 With 6 figures and 8 plates 1 Natural History Museum, Geological-Palaeontological Department, Burgring 7, A-1010 Wien, Austria, e-mail: [email protected] 2 Prissian 102, I – 39010 Tisens (BZ), Italy Abstract Lower Cretaceous ammonoids (n = 424) were collected at the Puez locality in the Dolomites of Southern Tyrol. The cephalopod fauna from the marly limestones to marls here indicates Late Valanginian to Early Aptian age. The deposition of the marly limestones and marls of this interval occurred during depositional- ly unstable conditions. The underlying Biancone Formation (Maiolica Formation) is of Early Valanginian, whereas the lowermost Rosso Ammonitico is of Jurassic to Berriasian age. The ammonoid fauna consists of 27 different genera, each represented by 1-2 species. The assemblage at the Puez section is dominated by the Phylloceratina (30%) and the Ammonitina (34%). Phyllopachyceras (17%) and Phylloceras (13%) (both Phylloceratina) are the most frequent components, followed by Lytoceras (12%) (Lytoceratina), and Barremites (10%) and Melchiorites (8%) (both Ammonitina). The cephalopod fauna is purely of Mediterranean origin.

RODDA, MICHAEL A. MURPHY, AND CLARENCE SCHUCHMAN California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco, California 94118, USA Abstract. Three specimens of the nautilid Eucymatoceras plicatum (Fitto-i, 1836), characterized by chevron-shaped i lbs, were collected from Lower Cretaceous (Aptian) rocks in northern California. This is the first record of the genus in California, and the second record in the Western Hemisphere. Previous records are from the Lower Cretaceous (Barremian and Aptian) of western and southeastern Europe and Baja California, Mexico. INTRODUCTION but he doubts that conch form in Eucymato.eras can be considered as species diagnostic. He mentions no other Among the numerous Cretaceous fossils collected during distinguishing characteristics. From published descriptions our many years of field work in the Cottonwood District and illustrations, E. stschurowskii and E. steveni appear to of northern California are three specimens of the distinctive differ from E. plicatus in the character of the ribbing. In nautilid cephalopod Eucymatoceras. Two specimens are in E. stschurowskii the ribs are not straight and uniform but the geology collections of the California Academy of Sci- are irregularly angled in zig-zag fashion across the flank ences (CASG); the third is from the former collections of (MILASHEVICH, 1877:pl. 1, fig. 11). • The Barremian Heteromorph Ammonite Dissimilites from Northern Italy: Taxonomy and Evolutionary Implications
The Barremian heteromorph ammonite Dissimilites from northern Italy: Taxonomy and evolutionary implications ALEXANDER LUKENEDER and SUSANNE LUKENEDER Lukeneder, A. and Lukeneder, S. 2014. The Barremian heteromorph ammonite Dissimilites from northern Italy: Taxon- omy and evolutionary implications. Acta Palaeontologica Polonica 59 (3): 663–680. A new acrioceratid ammonite, Dissimilites intermedius sp. nov., from the Barremian (Lower Cretaceous) of the Puez area (Dolomites, northern Italy) is described. Dissimilites intermedius sp. nov. is an intermediate form between D. dissimilis and D. trinodosum. The new species combines the ribbing style of D. dissimilis (bifurcating with intercalating single ribs) with the tuberculation style of D. trinodosum (trituberculation on entire shell). The shallow-helical spire, entirely comprising single ribs intercalated by trituberculated main ribs, is similar to the one of the assumed ancestor Acrioceras, whereas the increasing curvation of the younger forms resembles similar patterns observed in the descendant Toxoc- eratoides. These characters support the hypothesis of a direct evolutionary lineage from Acrioceras via Dissimilites to Toxoceratoides. D. intermedius sp. nov. ranges from the upper Lower Barremian (Moutoniceras moutonianum Zone) to the lower Upper Barremian (Toxancyloceras vandenheckii Zone). The new species allows to better understand the evolu- tion of the genus Dissimilites. The genus appears within the Nicklesia pulchella Zone represented by D. duboise, which most likely evolved into D. dissimilis. In the Kotetishvilia compressissima Zone, two morphological forms developed: smaller forms very similar to Acrioceras and forms with very long shaft and juvenile spire like in D. intermedius sp. nov. The latter most likely gave rise to D. subalternatus and D. trinodosum in the M.

Nautilids Markus Wilmsen Senckenberg Naturhistorische Sammlungen Dresden, Museum für Mineralogie und Geologie, Sektion Paläozoologie, Königsbrücker Land- straße 159, 01109 Dresden, Deutschland; [email protected] Revision accepted 18 July 2016. Published online at www.senckenberg.de/geologica-saxonica on 29 December 2016. Abstract Nautilids are not rare in the Saxonian Cretaceous (lower Upper Cretaceous Elbtal Group), especially in the Pläner and marl facies.

It is therefore not a publication in the sense of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. Abstract The purpose of the study was to provide conclusive evidence for a chronostratigraphical assignment of the Qihulin Formation of the Longzhaogou Group exposed in Mishan and Hulin counties of eastern Heilongjiang, northeastern China. To develop an integrated view of the formation, all collected fossil groups, i.e. the macrofossils (ammonites and bivalves) and microfossils (agglutinated foraminifers and radiolarians) have been studied. The low-diversity ammonite fauna consists of Pseudohaploceras Hyatt, 1900, and Eogaudryceras Spath, 1927, which indicate a Barremian–Aptian age. The bivalve fauna consists of eight genera and 16 species. The occurrence of Thracia rotundata (J. de C: Sowerby) suggests an Aptian age. The agglutinated foraminifers comprise ten genera and 16 species, including common Lower Cretaceous species such as Ammodiscus rotalarius Loeblich & Tappan, 1949, Cribrostomoides? nonioninoides (Reuss, 1836), Haplophragmoides concavus (Chapman, 1892), Trochommina depressa Lozo, 1944. Didier BERT 1, 2 Stéphane BERSAC 2 Abstract: The Late Barremian Hemihoplitidae (Ancyloceratina, Ammonoidea) are widely known in the northern Tethyan Margin and the Essaouira-Agadir Basin (Morocco). Their rapid evolution and diversifi- cation make them one of the key groups for that period, but their origin remains poorly known and several competing hypotheses have been published. These hypotheses are tested here with cladistic analysis in order to reject those receiving the least support and discuss those well supported.

  • (Ammonoidea, Gassendiceratinae), and New Ammonite Biohorizon for the Upper Barremian of Southeastern France
Carnets de Géologie / Notebooks on Geology - Article 2009/02 (CG2009_A02) Pseudoshasticrioceras bersaci nov. sp. (Ammonoidea, Gassendiceratinae), and new ammonite biohorizon for the Upper Barremian of southeastern France Didier BERT* 1 Gérard DELANOY 2 Abstract: Research in the Feraudianus Subzone of the Sartousiana Zone of the Barremian stage led to the discovery of a new species of Pseudoshasticrioceras: P. bersaci nov. sp. Its study provides evidence concerning the developments of the latest Gassendiceratinae BERT et alii, 2006, and the relationship between the genus Pseudoshasticrioceras DELANOY, 1998, and Gassendiceras BERT et alii, 2006. In particular, this new species is derived from Pseudoshasticrioceras magnini (DELANOY, 1992) by a minor revision in the processes of ontogenesis (retardation of ornamentation - neoteny). However, the evolution towards Pseudoshasticrioceras autrani DELANOY, 1998, implies a "failure" in this process that may possibly be related to parallel changes in environmental conditions. On the other hand, the very closely defined stratigraphic position of Pseudoshasticrioceras bersaci nov. sp., and its position in the anagenetic lineage of Pseudoshasticrioceras, demonstrates its interest as a biostratigraphic marker: a new Bersaci Biohorizon is proposed; it is located between the Magnini and the Autrani biohorizons. Key Words: Ammonitinae; Pseudoshasticrioceras; Gassendiceratinae; Upper Barremian; Sartousiana Zone; Feraudianus Subzone; biozonation; southeastern France. Citation: BERT D. & DELANOY G. (2009).-
