Discography of the Mainstream Label
Discography of the Mainstream Label Mainstream was founded in 1964 by Bob Shad, and in its early history reissued material from Commodore Records and Time Records in addition to some new jazz material. The label released Big Brother & the Holding Company's first material in 1967, as well as The Amboy Dukes' first albums, whose guitarist, Ted Nugent, would become a successful solo artist in the 1970s. Shad died in 1985, and his daughter, Tamara Shad, licensed its back catalogue for reissues. In 1991 it was resurrected in order to reissue much of its holdings on compact disc, and in 1993, it was purchased by Sony subsidiary Legacy Records. 56000/6000 Series 56000 mono, S 6000 stereo - The Commodore Recordings 1939, 1944 - Billy Holiday [1964] Strange Fruit/She’s Funny That Way/Fine and Mellow/Embraceable You/I’ll Get By//Lover Come Back to Me/I Cover the Waterfront/Yesterdays/I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues/I’ll Be Seeing You 56001 mono, S 6001 stereo - Begin the Beguine - Eddie Heywood [1964] Begin the Beguine/Downtown Cafe Boogie/I Can't Believe That You're in Love with Me/Carry Me Back to Old Virginny/Uptown Cafe Boogie/Love Me Or Leave Me/Lover Man/Save Your Sorrow 56002 mono, S 6002 stereo - Influence of Five - Hawkins, Young & Others [1964] Smack/My Ideal/Indiana/These Foolish Things/Memories Of You/I Got Rhythm/Way Down Yonder In New Orleans/Stardust/Sittin' In/Just A Riff 56003 mono, S 6003 stereo - Dixieland-New Orleans - Teagarden, Davison & Others [1964] That’s A- Plenty/Panama/Ugly Chile/Riverboat Shuffle/Royal Garden Blues/Clarinet -

Gerry Mulligan Discography
GERRY MULLIGAN DISCOGRAPHY GERRY MULLIGAN RECORDINGS, CONCERTS AND WHEREABOUTS by Gérard Dugelay, France and Kenneth Hallqvist, Sweden January 2011 Gerry Mulligan DISCOGRAPHY - Recordings, Concerts and Whereabouts by Gérard Dugelay & Kenneth Hallqvist - page No. 1 PREFACE BY GERARD DUGELAY I fell in love when I was younger I was a young jazz fan, when I discovered the music of Gerry Mulligan through a birthday gift from my father. This album was “Gerry Mulligan & Astor Piazzolla”. But it was through “Song for Strayhorn” (Carnegie Hall concert CTI album) I fell in love with the music of Gerry Mulligan. My impressions were: “How great this man is to be able to compose so nicely!, to improvise so marvellously! and to give us such feelings!” Step by step my interest for the music increased I bought regularly his albums and I became crazy from the Concert Jazz Band LPs. Then I appreciated the pianoless Quartets with Bob Brookmeyer (The Pleyel Concerts, which are easily available in France) and with Chet Baker. Just married with Danielle, I spent some days of our honey moon at Antwerp (Belgium) and I had the chance to see the Gerry Mulligan Orchestra in concert. After the concert my wife said: “During some songs I had lost you, you were with the music of Gerry Mulligan!!!” During these 30 years of travel in the music of Jeru, I bought many bootleg albums. One was very important, because it gave me a new direction in my passion: the discographical part. This was the album “Gerry Mulligan – Vol. 2, Live in Stockholm, May 1957”. -

For Love Alone Music Credits
Music Nathan Waks Music Performed by the Australian Chamber Orchestra Leader Carl Pini Oboes Ann Gilbey Guy Henderson Flute Geoff Collins Piano David Miller and Academy Trio John Winther John Harding Nathan Waks Faure, Romance Sans Paroles Opus 17, No. 3 Faure, Pavane Opus 50 Telemann, Trio Sonata in B flat 'Tess's Tango', 'Quick's Quickstep' and 'Panama Hat' Composed by Nathan Waks And performed by The Terry Wilkinson Dance Band Recording Engineers Gerry Nixon Glen Phimister Composer Waks was nominated for an ARIA award in 1987, with Robyn Archer winning for her stage play (adapted for television), The Pack of Women. The film features the occasional bit of on screen music, including a squeeze box in a London pub, and a band playing at a dance: Composer Nathan Waks: Unsurprisingly, given Nathan Waks instrument of choice, the cello tends to dominate in the score. Waks has a brief wiki here. Waks was a prominent player in various quartets, and was for a time one of the co-principal cello players for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He has also developed interests in the wine game, most notably Kilikanoon Winery in South Australia's Clare Valley. According to director Gillian Armstrong, Waks was a cousin of producer Margaret Fink, who introduced him to Armstrong as an "incredible cellist" with an "extraordinary musical knowledge", and so he put together the score for My Brilliant Career, before moving on to continue the working relationship with Fink on For Love Alone. The Australian Cello Awards, here, provides this useful short CV for Waks: An important and innovative member of Australiaʼs musical establishment over the last three decades, solo cellist, chamber musician, principal cellist and administrator Nathan Waks is one of our most colourful classical musicians. -

1661 ·~upds 06v :l!snw 1un woN ~u-e r .A.rnw Vll3d0 3H.L .LV .LNVA3'l liV~SO Oscar Levant is known for his songs in the area of popular music, but his operas are virtually unknown. Obtaining and studying any one of his three operas should be important for establishing him as more than a popular-music composer. Levant's opera Carnival, from the 20th Century Fox movie Charlie Chan at the Opera, is especially worthy of consideration. Through careful analysis of this work, much can be learned about the style and interests of Oscar Levant. While comparisons to other composers and their works may be too extensive for this specific paper, some comparisons to Levant's own popular tunes of the same time period as Carnival may reveal remarkable similarities and/or differences. Along with an analysis of the score, observation of the opera as it is presented in the movie will provide information about the basis for its content and reveal its incorporation into the movie's plot. In addition, seeing the movie will give aural information, such as the types of instruments used. The interest in this topic stems from Oscar Levant's own books A Smattering of Ignorance, The Unimportance of Being Oscar, and The Memoirs of an Amnesiac. He refers to this opera in A Smattering of Ignorance. but his references to his musical acquaintances in The Memoirs of an Amnesiac may supply additional facts to help in understanding his musical style. Examining c 'arnival will contribute to showing the significance of Oscar Levant's style of composition. -
