A thrilling interpretation of the dramatic realities of the times and a reimagining of what wartime must have been like for one of Shakespeare’s most famous and compelling characters, a story of all-consuming passion and ambition, set in war torn Scottish landscape. SYNOPSIS Ellon. Scotland. Following a fierce battle in which Macbeth, Thane of Glamis and loyal general of King Duncan’s forces, has finally killed Macdonwald, a traitor and leader of rebel forces, he and fellow soldier Banquo encounter three women scavenging among the fallen soldiers, who foretell that Macbeth will become Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland, while Banquo will be the father of future kings. Both men are unnerved by the prophecies but for the moment appear not to believe them. At the battlefield campsite, Angus and Rosse arrive from the King’s court to pass on thanks from their royal master for the success in battle and to bestow Macbeth the title Thane of Cawdor. The previous holder of the title has been killed for treachery against the crown. When Macbeth goes to pay homage to the King, Duncan tells him that he has made arrangements to visit his home at Inverness to celebrate the victory.

  • A Passionate Adaptation of a Classic Novel”
” A passionate adaptation of a classic novel” Jane Eyre: From a politically charged novel, to a passionate love story En passionerad version av en klassisk roman Jane Eyre: Från en politiskt laddad roman, till en passionerad kärlekshistoria Therese Kruse Fakulteten för humaniora och samhällsvetenskap English 15HP Supervisor Johan Wijkmark Examiner Anna Swärdh 2016-12-03 Abstract The novel Jane Eyre, written by Charlotte Brontë, is very appreciated and famous. It has been adapted several times into different media, such as films, musicals and theatres. In this essay I will compare the novel with Cary Joji Fukunaga’s film adaption from 2011. I will compare the characters Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester and examine how they are portrayed, and I will also discuss the difference between Mr. Brocklehurst in the novel and in the film. I argue that the characters and some of the situations are adjusted to fit a modern audience. I also argue that the film is a romanticized, de-politicized version of the novel. Many of Jane’s reflections upon life, love, class, gender and so on are less developed in the film and the film is more of a love story than a story about a young woman’s life in the Victorian era. 1 The Victorian Era was a brilliant era for literature, and many of today’s most famous novels were written at that point in time. More and more female authors wrote novels and were published, although they often needed to use pseudonyms to hide their true identity and their true gender. The general view on women in the Victorian Era did not allow women to write, or at least not to expect their work to be as appreciated and famous as men’s work could be.

  • Working Title Films and Transatlantic British Cinema Nathaniel
Working Title Films and Transatlantic British Cinema Nathaniel Townsend PhD University of York Theatre, Film and Television September 2014 2 Abstract This thesis presents a business history of the London-based film production company, Working Title Films. The focus is on the creative and business structures and processes through which Working Title has operated and, in turn, the individual and collective agency of the key players responsible for developing and maintaining these institutional determinants. The same set of research questions are applied to the principal filmmaking institutions with which Working Title has collaborated, and, more particularly, examines how Working Title has negotiated creative and business relationships with various larger film businesses. By taking a chronological approach to Working Title’s evolution, a detailed account of the company’s years as an independent production company (1984-1990), a subsidiary of PolyGram Filmed Entertainment (1990-1998) and a subsidiary of Universal Pictures (1998-present) is provided. The thesis also offers a historical and conceptual framework through which the business history of Working Title is analysed. In the first instance, this involves a reconsideration of the relationship between the film industries and cultures of Britain and Hollywood which combines the discourses of national cinema with more recent scholarship about transnational cinema. This conceptual reinterpretation is subsequently applied to three indicative business histories from the 1930s and 1940s: London Films, MGM-British and the Rank Organisation — and then to Working Title itself. The central concept of the thesis — ‘Transatlantic British Cinema’ — describes a type of cultural production that challenges orthodox accounts of British cinema as national cinema and indicates the ways in which representations of Britain and ‘Britishness’ function within transnational film culture.

A Film by Michael Sucsy Production Notes Facebook: @EveryDayTheMovie Instagram: @OrionPictures Twitter: @OrionPictures #EveryDayMovie TRT 91 MINS / RATED PG-13 / USA / ENGLISH / COLOR Synopsis Based on David Levithan’s acclaimed New York Times bestseller, Every Day tells the story of Rhiannon (Angourie Rice), a 16-year old girl who falls in love with a mysterious soul named “A” who inhabits a different body every day. Feeling an unmatched connection, Rhiannon and A work each day to find each other, not knowing what or who the next day will bring. The more the two fall in love, the more the realities of loving someone who is a different person every 24 hours takes a toll, leaving Rhiannon and A to face the hardest decision either has ever had to make. Introduction Rhiannon is a good 16-year old – she helps out at home, doesn’t cause trouble, and does well at school. However, her family has been struggling – her father had a nervous breakdown and stopped working leaving her mother Lindsey the pressure of being the sole breadwinner. While her sister Jolene is the wild child who acts out, Rhiannon just wants to help keep her family together. At school things are little better – Rhiannon’s boyfriend Justin is the popular athlete, however, he’s also self-centered and takes Rhiannon for granted. That is, until one day when Justin shows up at school acting differently. Suddenly, he’s attentive and curious and sweet. Taken aback and enamoured, Rhiannon suggests they play hooky and steal away to Baltimore. The two take off in Justin’s car, listen to music and sing along, share stories they’ve never shared before, and play at the beach.

It was a decade in which film policy was shaped both by the Labour Government’s broader ambi!ons for the crea!ve industries as an engine of economic growth, and by the increasingly significant influence of digital technology in shaping the world.
