Star Studies Today: From the Picture Personality to the Media Celebrity Virginia Luzón-Aguado Universidad de Zaragoza [email protected] Although the study of film was already well established, Star Studies did not become the focus of serious, sustained academic research until the 1970s thanks to the seminal work of Richard Dyer, in which it was firmly established that film stars contribute fundamentally to the creation of meaning in a film text. It is for this reason that Star Studies has had a comparatively shorter, although not less productive, history than other areas of research within Film Studies. This paper will therefore be discussing the role, significance and value of Hollywood film stars within both our present society and the contemporary Hollywood film industry. However, in order to fully appreciate the current state of the institution of Hollywood stardom, it will also be necessary to briefly discuss its foundations and development, as well as the various ways in which stardom has routinely been analysed within the academic field of Film Studies. In order to illustrate my theoretical arguments, I will be focusing on the particular case of Harrison Ford, one of the most influential contemporary Hollywood icons.

NY Producers working on the safe and strategic relaunch of production in New York State in the wake of the COVID-19 VIRUS. NYPCRA mission statement We are a coalition of highly experienced film and television producers committed to the safe and strategic relaunch of production in New York State in the wake of the COVID-19 VIRUS. Our goal is to liaise with our industry partners in government, labor and studio operations to help design uniform guidelines to ensure the safe return to work for all NY film and television employees. We think it is critical: ● to apply these agreed upon guidelines uniformly to all productions; ● to guide creative solutions that will help manage these safety standards; ● to inform the community and confirm to the industry that when NY production resumes work, we will be prepared, well informed and working within a cohesive process. As producers, we believe we are uniquely positioned to organize and bring together the many moving parts needed to accomplish the above. With this in mind, we hope to invite insight, share feedback and create consensus on the timely relaunch of production in New York State. Finally, we believe that the health of the film and television industry is integral to the growth of many other industries in our region, from restaurants to lumber yards to office supply companies and more. Our success in achieving these goals will serve as a support to individuals and entities throughout the region. our stories. Gehry. The two men have been friends for many years, and Pollack completed the film over a period of five years, starting in 2000. Frank Gehry loves to sketch; it is the beginning of his architectural process. And it is his love of the sketch that gave Pollack his first clues to the style of this documentary film. Beginning with Gehry’s own original sketches for each major project, the film explores Gehry’s process of turning these abstract drawings, first into tangible, three-dimensional models, often made simply of cardboard and scotch tape, then into finished buildings of titanium and glass, concrete and steel, wood and stone. To capture the sketch quality in the documentary, Pollack uses a combination of film and Mini DV (digital video) as his media. Spending countless hours in Gehry’s studio, on building sites, and in his home, this unobtrusive and quiet shooting style has captured, for the first time, the essence of Gehry’s unique architectural process, and his shy and elusive personality.
