Dieses ehrgeizige Projekt habe sie, so erzählt Estefan, „schon lange im Hinterkopf gehabt“ und in der Vergangenheit gab es schon mehrfach direkte Begegnungen mit diesem Repertoire: 1993 war Gloria Estefan als Gaststar bei Frank Sinatras Album Duets mit dabei (sie sang „Come Rain Or Come Shine“ mit Sinatra), und vor kurzem war sie an Tony Bennetts Album Viva Duets beteiligt („Who Can I Turn To“). „Ich bin mit der Musik von Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Henry Mancini und mit den vielen romantischen mexikanischen und kubanischen Songs aufge- wachsen“, erzählt die in Havanna geborene Sängerin. „Dieses Genre passt genau zu mir, denn Musik hat für mich immer eine läuternde Wirkung“.
