  • P-Bruins Stomp Wolf Pack to Lower Magic Number to Two
Providence Bruins Nathan Roberts [email protected], 401.680.4734 Eddie Pannone [email protected] P-BRUINS STOMP WOLF PACK TO LOWER MAGIC NUMBER TO TWO Providence, RI – The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack Friday night 6-3, lowering their magic number to clinch a playoff berth to two. The P-Bruins got two goals from Ryan Fitzgerald along with goals from Anton Blidh, Jordan Szwarz, Trent Frederic and Austin Czarnik while Zane McIntyre made his 42nd start of the season in net. Providence dominated the zone time in the opening period and it showed on the scoreboard. After being held scoreless despite an 8-1 shots edge through six minutes, Blidh gave the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead at 7:59. Taking a pass from Cameron Hughes, Blidh started a 2-on-1 break with Jack Studnicka up the right side. Rather than pass, Blidh surprised Hartford goalie Alexander Georgiev with a wrister from inside the right circle for his 11th goal of the season. Just 1:11 later, Szwarz doubled that lead with his 21st goal of the season. At the bottom of the left circle, he blasted a one-timer in off a pass from Fitzgerald to give Providence a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. That domination continued into period number two with Providence tacking on a trio of goals. Fitzgerald found the back of the net on the power play at 2:58, tapping a beautiful feed from Czarnik in from the crease to make things 3-0 Providence. He struck again at 8:37, taking advantage of a poor Hartford clearing attempt.

  • P-Bruins Fall for First Time This Season
Providence Bruins Nathan Roberts [email protected], 401.680.4734 Eddie Pannone [email protected] P-BRUINS FALL FOR FIRST TIME THIS SEASON Providence, RI – The Providence Bruins fell to the Toronto Marlies Saturday night 3-2, concluding their three-game home stand. The P-Bruins got goals from Kenny Agostino and Tommy Cross while Zane McIntyre made his third straight start in goal. Both teams got off to a slow start, but it was Toronto that broke through at 6:52. Nikita Soshnikov fed Andreas Johnsson up the left side and he skated hard to the goal. Going top corner on McIntyre, Johnsson netted his second goal of the year to make it 1-0 Toronto. The Marlies had their chances thanks to some sloppy penalties by Providence, but the penalty kill unit kept things 1-0 into the intermission. Midway through the second period, Toronto extended the lead to 2-0 while on the power play. With Kerby Rychel setting a screen in front, Kasperi Kapanen took a feed from Timothy Liljegren at the left hash and snuck one by McIntyre for his second goal of the season. The P-Bruins offense came to life after that, but Calvin Pickard kept them off the scoreboard with some tremendous saves. He stopped two chances in front and another 2-on-1 shorthanded breakaway to keep things 2-0 Toronto after 40 minutes. Providence finally broke through at 7:53, capitalizing on a turnover in front of the net. Agostino stole the puck at the left hash and sent a wrister through for his second goal of the season as the P-Bruins cut the deficit to 2-1.
