A. in Indian Studies, University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran ([email protected]) (Received: Jan. 2, 2019 Revised: Feb. 28, 2019 Accepted: Ma r. 28, 2019) Abstract This study investigates the representations of Hindu-Muslim relationship in Bollywood movies from 2008 to 2018. It is assumed that after 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, which are known as 26/11, conflicts between Hindus and Muslims have escalated. Since Indian people are extreme fans of movies, especially Bollywood movies, in this regard, it is expected that media could play a significant role in increasing or alleviating the conflicts by influencing people’s attitudes and opinions. This research seeks to examine the extent and modality of the representation of Hindu-Muslim relationships in Bollywood after the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The study was conducted through a content analysis of 11 Bollywood movies, which were selected from 70 Muslim-characters-based movies. Favorable, unfavorable, neutral and unclear were the four factors through which the movies’ contents were analyzed. The overall analysis of these factors indicate that 66.17% of the scenes were favorable, 14.70% were unfavorable, 2.94% were neutral, and 16.17% presented unclear images of Hindu-Muslim relationship in Bollywood movies. -

Her entry into popular Indian reality shows Big Boss 5 (2011) and Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt’s offer of Jism 2 on that show made a cultural shock to the nation’s moral fabric that sparked protest throughout the country by social conservatives. This article aims to map the success of adult star Sunny Leone in Bollywood and the acceptance of porn star in the conservative society. I will analyze, how the film industry exploited the sex image of her and vice versa. I have chosen Sunny Leone’s three films Jism 2 (Pooja Bhatt, 2012), Ragini MMS (Bhushan Patel, 2014), and Mastizaade (Milap Milan Zaveri, 2016) to discuss the sexual pleasure on screen, double entendre and the objectification of women body. I argue that the study of Sunny Leone’s popularity and her films, where she played sexually liberated characters can stage a dialogue between deep-rooted patriarchy, taboo, taste, and public secret. Article Rita Dutta Female Gaze: A Paradigm Shift Parched 2012 Cannes film festival witnessed massive protest by the attendants especially the feminists as they found in their dismay that there are no films from women directors. So, there is an absolute question of sexism in the selection process. The website change.org came up with the headline ‘Where are the Female Directors’ created quite a stir among the festival goers. Cannes is a ‘popular’ festival besides being overtly artistic. Its popularity is often intertwined by the ‘red carpet’ agenda. Women are all over but in a lesser & frivolous way. There is 1 mostly no ‘brains’ involved. The problem does not only lie in the conspicuous absence of films by the women film makers in the official competition of Cannes but also the severe dearth of women film makers in the whole world. This does raise an eye brow? It is kind of difficult to believe that no films from female directors was worthy of inclusion. May be the festival does not want to see a feminist point of view.
