Al in had Dick Bruna het bedrijf Mercis opgericht om de zakelijke belangen van nijntje te behartigen. Op papier boeken, kleurboeken, kaartjes, puzzels of in de vorm van speelgoed, dekbekovertrekken of lampenkappen. Of in het theater en op televisie. Mercis bewaakt het auteursrecht en kijkt toe op de basiswaarden: de producten moeten tijdloos en van betrouwbare kwaliteit zijn en vooral ook nooit agressief of controversieel. Het ter ziele gegane blad Deng zette een "Lijntje" op de cover van een nummer over cokeverslaving. Van de rechter moest het blad uit de handel. Recentere "Lijntjes" in Nederland mochten van de rechtbank dan weer wél, omdat het echte parodieën waren en ver genoeg afweken van het origineel. Bekend is ook de tekening "Nijn eleven", met nijntje in een vliegtuig richting Twin Towers. In eigen land was er de tv-reeks Musti , getekend door wijlen Ray Goossens die ook "Plons de gekke kikker" bedacht. Het katje Musti lijkt sterk op nijntje, vond ook Dick Bruna, maar Goossens zei dat hij het figuurtje als eerste had bedacht. Een Japanse creatie is Hello Kitty ° , een kattenmeisje van wie de ogen en de mond op die van nijntje lijken. Dick Bruna was not amused. In stapte zijn bedrijf Mercis naar de rechter wegens Cathy, een vriendinnetje van Kitty. Bruna kreeg gelijk: Cathy was te zeer een kopie van nijntje. Het Japanse bedrijf ging in beroep, maar uiteindelijk kwam er een schikking waarbij Cathy van de aardbodem verdween en beide bedrijven een grote som geld stortten voor de slachtoffers van de tsunami in In het boek "Dick Bruna" van Bruce Ingman en Ramona Reihill in de reeks "The illustrators" lees je over zijn eerste loopbaan, die van boekomslagontwerper. Hoewel hij voltijds kunstenaar wilde zijn ging hij om den brode toch in dienst bij de uitgeverij van zijn vader. Die bracht misdaadpockets aan de man en de vrouw via kiosken. Impulsaankopen, waarbij een pakkende cover van groot belang was. Bijvoorbeeld voor de Maigret-reeks van Georges Simenon. [Boek - nijntje een feestje De eerste nijntjeboeken uit waren rechthoekig en het konijn zag er ook anders uit, met schuine oren en een afgewende blik. Pas in kregen de tekeningen en ook de boeken zelf de vorm van een vierkant. Kinderboeken zagen er toen volkomen anders uit. Waar haalde Dick Bruna zijn inspiratie? Hij was al van jongs af aan in de ban van moderne kunst, vooral dan van de Fransen Henri Matisse en Fernand Léger , met hun eenvoudige vormen, heldere kleuren en tekeningen zonder perspectief. Iets wat hij ook toepaste in zijn beroep van omslagontwerper voor pocketboeken, in de uitgeverij van zijn vader. Over Bruna als coverontwerper, zie verder in dit artikel. Nijntje is uitgepuurd tot de essentie. Dick Bruna maakte eerst een schets en schilderde de contouren dan met zwarte plakkaatverf. Altijd met de vrije hand, nooit met een liniaal of met de computer. Dat verklaart waarom de lijnen er niet strak uitzien, maar wel hier en daar smaller of dikker, bibberig soms. Een levende lijn. Twee stippen en een kruisje, uit meer bestaat het gezicht van nijntje niet. Hoe moeilijk het is om die elementen juist te plaatsen bewees een experiment in het Rijksmuseum van Amsterdam, toen daar in een grote expo liep van Dick Bruna. Aan kunstkenners werd gevraagd om in een leeg gezicht de twee stippen en het kruisje te tekenen. Er kwamen vooral hele rare nijntjes uit voort. Bekijk hier hoe trefzeker Dick Bruna te werk ging:. Ook de kleuren zijn bijzonder. Dick Bruna koos eerst voor blauw, rood, geel, wit en zwart, de kleuren van zijn geliefde kunststroming De Stijl. Geen primaire kleuren, want hij mengde er wat zwart doorheen. Later voegde hij groen en bruin aan zijn palet toe. Bij elke tekening hoort een tekst van vier regels, op rijm. Daar zwoegde Dick Bruna hard op. Ook van de vertalingen wilde hij precies weten hoe ze klonken. Opvallend: het is altijd hetzelfde lettertype, makkelijk leesbaar, zonder hoofdletters en punten. De verhalen zijn uit het dagelijks leven gegrepen. Nijntje op school, in de dierentuin, uit logeren bij oma en opa. De andere figuren zijn al even eenvoudig vormgegeven. Er bestaat al 65 jaar wat verwarring over, maar nijntje is een meisje. In , 15 jaar na de start, draagt ze een bloemenjurk in "het feest van nijntje". Mepal 3. Jumbo 2. Jan van Haasteren 1. Loco 1.     《藝術學研究》 2015 年 6 月，第十六期，頁 131-168 Mariko Mori and the Globalization of Japanese “Cute” Culture: Art and Pop Culture in the 1990s SooJin Lee Abstract This essay offers a cultural-historical exploration of the significance of the Japanese artist Mariko Mori (b. 1967) and her emergence as an international art star in the 1990s. After her New York gallery debut show in 1995, in which she exhibited what would later become known as her Made in Japan series— billboard-sized color photographs of herself striking poses in various “cute,” video-game avatar-like futuristic costumes—Mori quickly rose to stardom and became the poster child for a globalizing Japan at the end of the twentieth century. I argue that her Made in Japan series was created (in Japan) and received (in the Western-dominated art world) at a very specific moment in history, when contemporary Japanese art and popular culture had just begun to rise to international attention as emblematic and constitutive of Japan’s soft power. While most of the major writings on the series were published in the late 1990s, problematically the Western part of this criticism reveals a nascent and quite uneven understanding of the contemporary Japanese cultural references that Mori was making and using. I will examine this reception, and offer a counter-interpretation, analyzing the relationship between Mori’s Made in Japan photographs and Japanese pop culture, particularly by discussing the Japanese mass cultural aesthetic of kawaii (“cute”) in Mori’s art and persona. In so doing, I proffer an analogy between Mori and popular Japanimation characters, SooJin Lee received her PhD in Art History from the University of Illinois-Chicago and was a lecturer at the School of Art Institute of Chicago.

    Hausutembosu (Huis ten Bosch) by Bettina Brandt Looking for traces of historical Dutch-Japanese trade relations in the Nagasaki area, Y and I stopped at Huis ten Bosch, a Dutch theme park in Sasebo that doubles as a waterfront resort-cum-residential area, drawing tourists as well as those interested in experiments in urban living. Most of the tourists come from Southeast Asia (Japan, Taiwan, Korea); tourists from other places are few and far between. A local Japanese tycoon envisioned the park in the late eighties, at a time when a number of such ethno-themed parks—known in Japanese as gaikoku mura (foreign villages)—were being built. Period parks like Edo Wonderland in Hokkaido (tagline: “the essence of Japan”) are also popular tema paku destinations in Japan. There, tourists can visit the past and walk around in Edo-period costumes (and dress up like a samurai, wear a ninja costume, or perhaps dress up as a yuujo , 遊女, or “play woman”) for the day. The Japanese theater troupe Lasenkan in Berlin When Huis ten Bosch finally opened its doors to the public in the early 1990s, however, the recession was about to hit, and the park, one of the subsidiaries of the Huis ten Bosch Corporation, has been in receivership twice already. Three times the size of the Mall in Washington D. C., Huis ten Bosch is one of Asia’s largest parks. One could call it a Japanese polder , Dutch for land that was reclaimed and drained. The tourist attraction on the island of Kyushu is named after Paleis Huis ten Bosch, the residence of Queen Beatrix in The Hague, the political capital of the Netherlands.

    The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, D.C., DC 20500 [VIA EMAIL] April 9th, 2021 Dear President Biden, I am writing to deliver a petition, attached to this letter, signed by 29,318 people urging you to put an end to the racial profiling of Asian Americans and Asian immigrants and end the Justice Department’s “China Initiative.” Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC worked with directly impacted persons, who were inspired to take action but chose to remain anonymous due to fear, to launch this petition urging you to immediately end the “China Initiative” and the federal government’s racial profiling and targeting of Asian American and Asian immigrant scientists, researchers, and scholars, particularly by the Department of Justice (DOJ), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Science Foundation (NSF). We thank you for your public condemnation of racism, xenophobia, and intolerance against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States and look forward to the administration's efforts to combat profiling within our federal institutions. Along with almost 30,000 impacted persons, concerned citizens, and community members, we seek to draw your attention to the increasing targeting and racial profiling of Asian Americans and Asian immigrants, particularly those of Chinese descent, who are working in science and technology. Asian Americans and immigrants across the country face not only the deathly impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and devastating attacks of hate on their most vulnerable, but are also being scapegoated and targeted by law enforcement and the federal government.     PUBLIC FOUNDATION GREATER Educational Resource DES MOINES ART MIFFY FOUNTAIN BY TOM SACHS PHOTO: BEN EASTER ARTWORK BIO Miffy is a cute little bunny who is the star of an internationally renowned series of children’s books that follow her innocent adventures. Drawn with simple lines and flat, bright colors, she has become an icon of childhood, with almost 40 Miffy books translated into over 50 languages. Miffy is also a merchandising giant, with her features found on dozens of commercial objects. The contemporary American artist Tom Sachs adapts the sweet and guileless bunny in his Miffy Fountain in which she cries a fountain of tears which fall into a pool surrounding her. Transformed from the pages of a children’s book into a three- dimensional, monumental sculpture, Miffy was constructed with foamcore and glue which was then cast into bronze and painted white. ARTIST BIO Sculptor Tom Sachs is best known for reinterpreting modern icons and commenting on consumerist and capitalist culture. Sachs engineers materials of all sorts in his works, often leaving evidence of his construction process, as he does in Miffy Fountain, where the seams of the original foamcore sections are maintained in the bronze.
