OUR LADY OF LOURDES PARISH NEWSLETTER th 11 Sunday in Ordinary Time 13 June 2021 A message from the NZ Catholic Bishops Conference and The Nathaniel Centre for Bioethics Love Your Neighbour Get Vaccinated Church campaign supporting Covid-19 vaccination On Wednesday June 10, Cardinal John Dew publicly received the first Covid vaccination. This was part of a major new Catholic Church campaign in support of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination programme. The campaign is being run by the bishops’ Nathaniel Centre for Bioethics (part of Te Kupenga). At the request of the Bishops, Te Kupenga Nathaniel Centre for Bioethics has created a collection of resources about the vaccine which answer some commonly asked practical, scientific, and religious questions about it. These resources are brought together under the title "Love Your Neighbour As Yourself - Get Vaccinated. Please view the short video introduced by Bishop Patrick Dunn, involving various members of the Catholic community, about the vaccine. The website and video can be accessed at www.get-vaccinated-catholic-co.nz. The Pfizer vaccine is safe and effective, and it has been given to hundreds of millions of people worldwide. In getting the vaccine, you will also be protecting those who cannot receive the vaccination, such as those with underlying health conditions and young children. The Vatican has stated that all approved vaccines can be received in good conscience – their use does not implicate anyone in the wrongs of abortion. Getting vaccinated is a charitable act as it protects not just yourself, your whanau and your community, but also those who cannot be vaccinated for one reason or another. Get vaccinated! DIOCESAN NOTICES: CONCERT FOR INDIA-SUNDAY 20 June. A concert to raise funds for the people of India where the Coronavirus has caused such devastation. Caritas is the international Catholic Aid Agency and Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand will send the concert’s proceeds to Caritas India, who are working on the ground to assist those afflicted with the Coronavirus. Bishop Patrick Dunn, who will attend the concert, said that our prayer, and this concert will make us more aware of what Indian families here and in India are suffering, and it’s our small way of supporting them. There will be another opportunity to take part in an evening of Taizé prayer at Mission Bay on Friday evening June 18th. Please see the flyer on noticeboard for more details.
