    Index to Applicants in Marriage Application Books for Hendricks County, Indiana (1905-1950) Indexed by Meredith Thompson Avon, Indiana 2015 NOTE: This index is not meant to be a comprehensive listing of all the information that was included in the marriage application—you should always consult the actual entry in the marriage application book. BACKGROUND: In May 1905, a new Indiana law took effect, requiring the recording of detailed information about the bride and groom (such as their birthdates and birthplaces, as well as their occupations and information about any previous marriages) as well as information about their parents. In Hendricks County, the information from the marriage applications was initially kept in a separate set of books from the marriage record (which only recorded the names of the bride and groom, the date the marriage was performed, and the name of the person who performed the marriage). This separate set of marriage application books was used in Hendricks County from May 1905 through May 1950; then beginning in June 1950, the application information was recorded in the same set of books as the marriage record. The Archives section of the Hendricks County Government website (www.co.hendricks.in.us) has digital versions of these 1905-1950 marriage application books. The digital versions are also available as part of an Indiana marriage database on FamilySearch (www.familysearch.org). Additionally, these marriage application books have been microfilmed, and that microfilm is available locally at the Plainfield library, as well as the Indiana State Library in Indianapolis and the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Vegetarianism dates back to a time before recorded history and, as many anthropolo- gists believe, most early humans ate primarily plant foods, being more gatherers than hunters. Human diets may be adopted for a variety of reasons, including political, esthetic, moral, environmental and economic concerns, religious beliefs, and a desire to consume a more healthy diet. A major factor influencing the vegetarianism movement in the present time is primarily associated with better health. Epidemiologic data support the association between high intake of vegetables and fruit and low risk of chronic diseases and provide evidence to the profound and long-term health benefits of a primarily vegetarian diet. Vegetables and fruit are rich sources of nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber as well as biologically active nonnutrient compounds that have a complementary and often multiple mechanisms of actions, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, hypocholesterolemic, and hypolipidemic properties, and mechanisms that stimulate the human immune system. Because of the critical link established between diet and health, consumers have begun to view food as a means of self-care for health promotion and disease prevention. Functional foods are targeted to address specific health concerns, such as high cholesterol or high blood sugar levels, to obtain a desired health benefit. Functional properties identified in a number of plant species have led to a modern day renaissance for the vegetarian movement. t is often asserted that humans are naturally vegetarian because the human body resembles plant eaters, not carnivores. However, Ihumans are omnivores, capable of eating either meat or plant foods, or general feeders, with more generalized anatomical and physi- ological traits.

    i Everybody’s Got a Story: Examining the Building of Empathy and Understanding for the Bully, the Bullied, and the Bystander through Digital Storytelling by Stephanie Thompson A thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts Graduate Department of Education in the University of Ontario Institute of Technology © Copyright by Stephanie Thompson, 2014 1 Abstract Digital storytelling as a pedagogical practice has been extensively explored as a means of increasing engagement, developing 21st century skills such as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication, and refining digital literacies in students. However, there is a lack of data on how the use of multimodal digital tools can be used to explore pervasive social issues such as bullying in adolescents. In this study, a group of grade seven students provided their views and self-assessed their levels of empathy and understanding for victims of bullying, bullies and bystanders prior to and after the completion of a digital storytelling project. Using Likert scale data, along with an in-depth content analysis of the stories and presentations the students produced, the study explored whether participation in this digital storytelling project led to a noticeable and measurable impact on their understanding of and empathy for victims of bullying, bullies and bystanders.
