She has a timeless sense of style, portrayed in understated chic. I like to design hats that are beautiful and timeless, not over cluttered with excessive trims and ornamentation. I like clean silhouettes that enhance the wearer’s confidence and style. A Callanan hat should enhance and not distract from the wearer’s beauty. Since my first collection in 1986, I have never tired of introducing American ladies to the fun and mystique of wearing romantic hats. Be it at the beach or a special occasion, a Callanan hat adds a sense of je ne sais quoi. After graduating from FIT-Fashion Institute of Technology NYC in 1984, I had the great fortune of working on bespoke hats for NYC Opera’s repertoire like Rigoletto (1988), Broadway shows and movies like Working Girl (1988) with Melanie Griffith, Eight Men Out (1988), Sommersby (1993) with Richard Gere and Jodi Foster, The Birdcage (1996) with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, to name a few. In 1995 Dorfman Pacific Hat Company acquired the Callanan label and it is an honor to present my 25th collection for them this year-2020. A hat is a very special accessory, it delivers instant glamor. Hats can say many things about the wearer from “look at me” to “leave me alone” as when they are used as shields by celebrities from the paparazzi. Shaffer, Graduate School Representative ABSTRACT TALES FROM THE SILENT MAJORITY: CONSERVATIVE POPULISM AND THE INVENTION OF MIDDLE AMERICA by Jeffrey Christopher Bickerstaff In this dissertation I show how the conservative movement lured the white working class out of the Democratic New Deal Coalition and into the Republican Majority. I argue that this political transformation was accomplished in part by what I call the "invention" of Middle America. Using such cultural representations as mainstream print media, literature, and film, conservatives successfully exploited what came to be known as the Social Issue and constructed "Liberalism" as effeminate, impractical, and elitist. Chapter One charts the rise of conservative populism and Middle America against the backdrop of 1960s social upheaval. I stress the importance of backlash and resentment to Richard Nixon's ascendancy to the Presidency, describe strategies employed by the conservative movement to win majority status for the GOP, and explore the conflict between this goal and the will to ideological purity. In Chapter Two I read Rabbit Redux as John Updike's attempt to model the racial education of a conservative Middle American, Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom, in "teach-in" scenes that reflect the conflict between the social conservative and Eastern Liberal within the author's psyche. I conclude that this conflict undermines the project and, despite laudable intentions, Updike perpetuates caricatures of the Left and hastens Middle America's rejection of Liberalism.

Or a fluid season of see it/buy it and see it/wait for it? The key word is fluid, as in… Gender Fluid. As more women lead the same business lives as men, the more the clothes for those shared needs become less sex-specific. Raf Simons of Calvin Klein and Anna Sui showed men and women in identical outfits. For the first time, significant numbers of male models shared the runways with female models. Some designers showed menswear separately from women’s wear but sequentially at the same site. Transgender Fluid. Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler hired transgender models. Transsexuals also modeled in London, Milan and Paris. On the runways, diversity is the meme of the season. Model selections are more inclusive—not only gender fluid, but also age fluid, race fluid, size fluid, religion fluid. And Location Fluid. Philipp Plein leaves Milan for New York. Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy leave New York for Paris. Tommy Hilfiger, Rebecca Minkoff and Rachel Comey leave New York for Los Angeles. Tom Ford returns to New York from London and Los Angeles. SOCCER HEADGEAR EFFECTS ON IMPACT PROFILES DURING A HEADING SCENARIO A Thesis Presented to the Graduate School of Clemson University In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Science Bioengineering by Ryan Patrick Posey December 2006 Accepted by: Dr. Lisa Benson, Committee Chair Dr. Martine LaBerge Dr. Karen Burg ABSTRACT The risk of head injuries in the sport of soccer has recently become a topic of concern, particularly with youth players whom may suffer long-lasting or even permanent effects from a severe head injury. In response to these worries, headguards have been developed specifically for use in soccer. These headguards have been studied using crash test dummy heads mounted with various electronic instruments – accelerometers, gyroscopes, etc. The headgear-mounted dummy heads have been struck with various objects (soccer ball, another dummy head, pole, etc) to test for changes in head acceleration response. Testing of soccer headgear has previously been limited to dummy head models.
