for his shipmates. Before entering the Navy, Fr. O’Callahan was a professor of mathematics and philosophy at Holy Cross. He returned to the College after the war. He died on March 18, 1964. Shortly after Fr. O’Callahan died, Rev. Raymond J. Swords S.J., President of the College and Rector of the Jesuit Community, instituted an award in his memory. This award recognizes a graduating midshipman from the College’s NROTC unit who best demonstrates the personal qualities that Fr. O’Callahan exemplified throughout Rev. Joseph T.
