9 Facts to Know: 5 1. Torrey Pines beat San Marcos on Tuesday night to move to 16-4 on the season, 3-0 in league, and extend their winning streak to five straight. La Costa Canyon lost on a half-court buzzer beater at Carlsbad on Tuesday night. That snapped a seven game winning streak, moved them to 14-8 on the year, and was their first loss in league.

2. The Falcons have now won eight straight over the Mavericks. The last win for La Costa Canyon came on January 17th, 2014 at home on a Tommy McCarthy buzzer beater, 54-52.

3. In the Maxpreps era, the Falcons are 14-13 against the Mavericks. Last season, the teams faced off twice in Avocado West League play. The scores were 62-49 (leading scorer Bryce Pope with 22) and 73-53 (leading scorer Mike Pope with 22), both in favor of the Falcons.

4. In the Avocado West League, the Falcons currently maintain sole possession of first place at 3-0. Carlsbad and La Costa Canyon are 2-1, Mission Hills and San Marcos are 1-2, and Canyon Crest is 0-3.

7. Tuesday’s game saw some notable stat performances. Brandon Angel (#21) collected his third straight double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Howell (#5) had 7 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals. Diego Campisano (#4) turned in an 11 point, 7 performance.

8. This year’s team is on pace to be the best defensive team since 2015-2016 (45.6 ppg). The 2019-2020 Falcons are only giving up an average of 47.0 points per game, and have held opponents 11 times to under 50 points, all of which resulted in wins.
