'Mid light of day, I set the pace; In youthful years, I ran the race. Now-late in life His FORM I trace Beyond The Sunset. We follow long and heed the plea; Reach out our hand, and take the key. My one request: "His FACE to see Beyond The Sunset." A promise sweet imbues my mind; At His command, my all resigned. In future years a HOME I'll find Beyond The Sunset. GEORGE V. SUMMERS THE 1959 BLUE MOUNTAIN ECHOES at BLUE MOUNTAIN. ACADEMY Hamburg, Pennsylvania · Volume 4 3 I I IN MEMORIAM TERRY STAIRS came to our campus as a soph, omore this past summer. He spent his few months with us working on the Farm arid Dairy. On October 24, 1958, Barn No.2 caught fire and burned to the ground. TERRY lost his life in the frantic effort to put out. the blaze. While working near the barn with other students and faculty, he was killed when the barn wall collapsed on him. TERRY'S young life was taken at the age of fifteen. The vacancy which he left in the student body can never be replaced. Our sympa thies extend to his family and especially to his sister Shirley, who is a member of our graduating class. "The Lord Giveth and the Lord Taketh Away. Blessed Be the Name of the Lord." 4 With mixed emotions we look back to the founding of our school when the Adams family came to our campus. Elder R. R. Adams, who served in the ministry and in educational work at Philadelphia Academy, arrived at B. M. A., to serve as Bible teacher. Circumstances placed upon his shoulders the entire responsibility of our school, when our first Principal was forced to resign because of illness. From that moment to this Elder Adams has always blazed a clear path of Christian principles for the faculty and youth of Blue Mountain Academy. It is with love in our hearts and deep gratitude that we dedicate this book to you, Elder Adams, for your dedication to a cause that cannot die. 5 ELDER RUSSEL ADAMS HELEN METZ Principal Dean of Girls I Business Manager Old Testament History \ I \ CHARLES SNYDER WILLIAM WALKER Treasurer Science Bookkeeping Mathematics LLOYD KIDDER Bible Doctrines Assistant Dean of Boy!> .BETTY KIDDER Registrar Shorthand l GEORGE SUMMERS LLOYD GROVE English Maintenance Algebra Farm Shop ELDER ROLAND SHORTER LOUISE SHORTER Pastor School Nurse Bible Homemaking Spanish II Art MARTHA KINSEY Bookkeeper HERBERT KINSEY Dean of Boys American History ELDER JACK JUST DONNA JUST Music Piano ENID WILSON CARL PLYER History Herdsman English II Agriculture Assistant Dea~ of Girls GLADYS EUSEY Commercial Spanish I LEE EUSEY Farm Manager MARIAN FOWLER ERNEST CONIBEAR Food Service Director Maintenance '· AMOS MILLER Herdsman LILLIAN BAUMGARTNER Laundry MRS.
