Year Kg Term 3 – Lesson 2 The Saiva Manram, 217 Great Western Highway, Mays Hill, NSW 2145 Australia Telephone: 02 96871695 STAGE 1 - YEAR KG TERM 3 – LESSON 2 Birth Story of Lord Krishna Lord Vishnu’s one of the avatars is Krishna. He was born on Krishna Jayanthi/Janmashtami day. There was a time when Mother Earth was unable to bear the sins and cruelty committed by evil kings and rulers. Mother Earth then prayed to Lord Brahma, the creator of the Universe, to relieve her from these problems. Lord Brahma prayed to Lord Vishnu for reincarnation and to relieve Mother Earth from these evil rulers. Lord Vishnu accepted the request and Mother earth was happy. Kamsa was one such evil king who ruled Mathura and he wanted to live longer. Kamsa had a lovely sister named Devaki, who was married to Vasudeva. The day Devaki and Vasudeva got married, a voice from the sky forecasted that Devaki's eighth son will bring an end to Kamsa’s cruelty rule and will kill him. Frightened Kamsa threatened the couple and put them in jail. Then vowed that he would kill each child of Devaki and Vasudeva. Seeing their first seven children being killed by the cruel Kamsa one by one, the imprisoned couple feared giving birth to their next child and they were praying to God The Saiva Manram Term3 Kindergarten Lesson2 Page 1 | 5 continuously. Then, God Vishnu appeared in-front of them, and he will return to earth as their son and said he will rescue them and free them from Kamsa. The divine baby was born and the day he was born, Vasudeva found himself magically freed from prison. Vasudeva ran away with the infant to a safer house and Lord Vishnu removed all the obstacles from Vasudeva's path. Vasudeva reached a house in Gokul, exchanged Lord Krishna with a new-born girl of Yashoda and Nanda and returned to the prison with the girl child. As soon as Kamsa came to know about the new- born, he again tried to kill the child. The infant ascended to the heavens and transformed into the goddess Durga and said, "O foolish Kamsa! What will you get by killing me? To understand modern Vrindavan, one would have to look at its Mughal past; to understand temple architecture, one would have to look for rebellions in the colonial archive. Catherine B. Asher gave me the gift of the Mughal world – a world that I only barely knew before I met her. Today, I speak of the Islamicate world of colonial Vrindavan. Cathy walked me through Mughal mosques, tombs, and gardens on many cold wintry days in Minneapolis and on a hot summer day in Sasaram, Bihar. The Islamicate Krishna in my dissertation thus came into being.

In the physical front of the embodiment; certain organs are incessantly working — the circulatory system, the respiratory system, the metabolic system, the endocrine system. They don’t have breaks. They don’t have respite; they don’t have a rest. Even if you are fast asleep, they continue to work. So we are aware of this fact that on the front of body, in our embodiment, there are incessant activities, absolutely, right from birth to death.

    All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga SRI KRISHNA JANMASTAMI Once, the demon kings troubled the world greatly and the whole world was upset. Bhumi, the Deity of this world, went to Lord Brahma to tell him about all the trouble she had to go through as a result of all the things the demoniac kings were doing. Bhumi took the form of a cow and with tears in her eyes she approached Lord Brahma, hoping for his mercy. Lord Brahma became very sad as well and he decided to go to the ocean of milk where Lord Visnu lives. He went there together with the other demigods, Lord Siva went as well. There Lord Brahma began to speak to Lord Visnu who had saved the earth once before by taking the form of a boar (Lord Varaha). All the other demigods also offered a special prayer to Lord Visnu. This prayer is called the Purusa-Sukta prayer. On different planets there are different oceans. On our planets there are oceans of salt water but on other planets there are oceans of milk, oil or nectar. When the demigods didn’t hear any answer to their prayer, Lord Brahma decided to meditate. He received a very special message from Lord Visnu. He then gave this message to all the demigods. The message was that very soon the Supreme Lord Himself, together with His energy, strength and His eternal associates would appear into this world as the son of Vasudeva in the Yadu dynasty (Royal Family). The message also said that the demigods, along with their wives would take birth immediately in this family in this world so that they could help the Lord with His mission.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev. Few days ago the festival of Deepavali was celebrated. It is the day wherein Lord Sri Krishna was tied in the wooden mortar by Yashoda mata. Also this is the day of victorious entry of Lord Rama into Ayodhya after the war with Ravana. Also this month is called 'Damodar'. Damo means rope and udara means stomach. One who is tied around the stomach is called Lord Damodara. This month is like season offer Krishna has given as He knows the mentality of people in Kaliyuga. With all these concessions, we are not taking up to lovingly chant His Names and therefore He has to give lot of discount sales on devotional service and take away the sins of performers. This pastime of the Lord being tied to a mortar by His mother is a very fascinating pastime and year after year we hear the same pastime but it is always fresh and enlivening. Yashoda mata particularly teaches us how to attract the mercy of Krishna quickly by unflinching devotional service. There are specifically 3 verses which gives the very easy way to attract the mercy of the Lord. Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 10, Chapter 9 describes this pastime very wonderfully and Srila Prabhupada summarizes this chapter as follows. "While mother Yashoda was allowing Krishna to drink her breast milk, she was forced to stop because she saw the milk pan boiling over on the oven.
