Founded in 2001, ASPIRE is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that builds and empowers a community of Asian American (AA) womxn leaders through identity development, mentorship, and education. ASPIRE is based in Boston with volunteers and team members across the , including , New York, Michigan, and North Carolina. Our organization acknowledges the specific socio-cultural pressures faced by AA womxn and targets these issues for developing leadership and career skills with initiatives that support the personal and professional growth of AA girls and womxn. By strengthening our connectivity and sense of community, we aim to provide womxn ages 13+ with programs that enable AA students and young and working professionals to learn from each other and inspire social change.

The needs of the Asian American community are unique and can be challenging. Facing stereotypes of a “model minority”– the idea of an ethnic group having achieved success and needing little support – Asian Americans often lack mentors and public role models throughout their educational and professional lives. Asian Americans also struggle with navigating and mastering different sets of cultural norms, values, beliefs, and expectations in order to succeed, those belonging to both their Asian and American identities. Specific pressures frequently faced by AA womxn are not always recognized or addressed: insistence on obedience as daughters, being pigeonholed into traditional careers, or emphasis on the responsibility of womxn as sole caregivers. ASPIRE seeks to address these challenges and gaps by building a strong community of AA womxn through its programs, which include the annual Asian American Womxn in Leadership Conference.

Your contribution is paramount to sustaining and fostering the growth of ASPIRE’s programs:

Youth Leadership Program – A year-long leadership development program specifically tailored to the cultural and developmental needs of underserved AA high school girls. Mentorship Program – A program that pairs AA college students and recent graduates with professionals to build positive relationships, develop professional skills, and inspire confident leadership. ASPIRE in the Community - A series of events that enables our leaders to give back to organizations in the Greater Boston area, and whose goal is to inform our volunteers about local organizations and their needs while building new connections. Project Community - A project that brings together members of the Asian community who share similar interests and passions. Our current clubs – ASPIRE Chat and Games and Read With ASPIRE – meet monthly (virtually) to discuss, highlight, and unlock new experiences through the discovery of games and books. ASPIRING Talks - A series of talks that aims to provide a platform for our Asian community to share their stories, skills, and personal experiences with the community. Asian American Womxn in Leadership Conference (AAWIL) – The first Asian American girls’ and womxn’s conference in the United States that tackles leadership issues specific to this demographic.

By making a contribution to ASPIRE, you can: Promote your brand. Attract and retain talent in your organization with complimentary admissions. Gain recognition as a generous supporter of local organizations and communities.
