Quinlivan. The NYCSHS is chartered as a non-profit corporation under the laws of the State of Ohio. The mission of the NYCSHS is to perpetuate the legacy of the New York Central System by acquiring and preserving its history, traditions, documents, and artifacts; and by disseminating accurate information and products consistent with good stewardship. Members receive four issues of the popularly acclaimed Central Headlight, the official publication of the NYCSHS. Each issue contains a wealth of information, from steam to diesel (and electric), from freight to passenger, from branch line to mainline, and from the early days of Vanderbilt to the waning months of Young and Perlman, the Central Headlight covers it all. Annual Meetings are events focusing on the preservation of New York Central railroad history with informative speakers, presentations and tours. Office of the President Greetings! Welcome to the 2014 Annual Convention of the New York Central System Historical Society. I extend this welcome on behalf of the officers and Board of Directors of the NYCSHS, Convention Chairman Charles Beargie, Assistant Chairman Frank Bongiovanni, the members of the Convention Committee, and all who have worked hard to make this convention truly memorable. This is something of a homecoming for the NYCSHS, because the Society has its roots firmly planted in the Cleveland area. An early version of our Code of Regulations required that our annual business meetings be held in the City of Cleveland, and for many years, hardy members braved winter storms to attend February meetings in the Cleveland area. About a decade ago, it was thought that it would be useful to move our conventions, which include the annual business meetings, to various cities served by the New York Central System. We have not been back to the Cleveland area since 2008. How time flies! We have come a long way in nearly 45 years, offering services to our members and to the general public that no one would have thought possible even ten years ago. Your directors are committed to finding new ways to broaden our scope of activities so as to push the NYCSHS ever onward toward new horizons. We are always open to suggestions for the further development of the Society. No event of this magnitude could be possible without the coordinated efforts of many individuals, and in this case the coordinating was superbly accomplished by Convention Chairman Charles Beargie and Assistant Chairman Frank Bongiovanni. Members of the Committee included Ray Bottles, Joseph E. Epperson, Bill Feth, Jeff Koncal, Sheldon Lustig, Dave Nethery, John & Harol Pesuit, Joe Quinlivan, Jim Semon, Paul ‘Bud’ Spierling, Pauline Handman, Stephen Titchenal, James Wenter, and Dick Wilkison. Thanks are also gratefully extended to Holiday Inn Director of Sales Maureen Labyk; to those who kindly opened their model layouts (Joe Filipiak, Brian Haas, Bruce Brintnall, Tom McInerney, the Cuyahoga Valley & West Shore Club, Dave Lawler, Wayne Tomsic, and Bill Feth); to John B. Corns and Jerry Joe Jacobson at the Age of Steam Roundhouse; to Jim Semon for the initial invitation to the Age of Steam Roundhouse; to Berea Union Depot Taverne General Manager Micki Ezzo; to Ashtabula, Carson & Jefferson General Manager Frank Rueter and COO Robert Callahan; to Jefferson Depot President Jean Dutton; and to Joe Filipiak representing Grafton Tower.
