2015 Annual Report 2015 ANNUALREPORT (APR 15 – MAR 16) SINGAPORE GOLF ASSOCIATION 2015 ANNUAL REPORT 2015 ANNUALREPORT (APR 15 – MAR 16) INTRODUCTION ingapore amateur golfers chalked several notable “firsts” in the Sinternational amateur golfing arena in FY2015. The most noteworthy must be the podium finish in all four golf events at the 28th SEA Games hosted by Singapore. Team Singapore won the men’s team and individual silver medals and the women’s team and individual bronze medals. The other notable achievement was Team Singapore’s fourth placing at the 27th Asia Pacific Golf Team Championship (Nomura Cup). This was our best ever performance finishing behind champion Team Japan, Team Chinese Taipei and Team Korea. 3 54th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING he SGA 54th Annual General Meeting was held at the SICC Bukit Location on 27 Jul 15. TA total of eleven SGA Ordinary Members were present at the AGM. Mr James Koh Cher Siang, Chairman SICC, was elected for a second term of office as Chairman SGA Governing Council. Auditors SB Tan & Co were also reappointed. There was no change to the SGA Executive Board as members were appointed at the last AGM for a two year term of office. Chairman SGA Khoo Boon Hui addressing Governing Council members. 5 HIGHLIGHTS OF TEAM SINGAPORE’s ACHIEVEMENTS IN REGIONAL TournamentS 28th South East Asia Games Golf Tournament he 28th SEA Games golf tournament was hosted by Singapore at the Sentosa Golf Club TSerapong Course from 7 – 12 Jun 15. Thailand won all four gold medals winning the men’s and women’s team and individual events. Team Singapore achieved its best SEA Games performance with a podium finish in all four events winning the men’s team and individual silver and women’s team and individual bronze. SEA Games leaderboard showing the final scores. 7 27th Asia Pacific Amateur Golf Team Championship (Nomura Cup) he 27th Asia Pacific Amateur Golf TTeam Championship (Nomura Cup) was hosted by United Arab Emirate at the Yas Links Abu Dhabi from 22 – 25 Oct 15. We finished in 4th position, just one shot behind Team Korea. Team Japan was the champion, beating Team Chinese Taipei on countback. This achievement was our best ever at the Nomura Cup tournament. Team Malaysia were third. The 55th Putra Cup was hosted by Thailand from 15 – 18 Sep 15 at the Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club. Team SGA could only muster 6 points to lose to MGA which amassed 18 points. The 2015 SGA vs MGA annual match was hosted by Warren Golf & CC from 16 – 18 Nov 15. PLAYERS’ INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENTS IN REGIONAL TOURNAMENTS ur players’ individual success in the numerous regional golfing tournaments was also Onoteworthy. Gregory Foo won the 68th Singapore Open Amateur Championship, the 55th Putra Cup individual title and was selected by Asia Pacific Golf Confederation to represent Team Asia Pacific at the Sir Bonallack Trophy. LOCAL AMATEUR TOURNAMENTS 4th Singapore National Senior Amateur Championship he 4th SNSAC was hosted by Laguna National Golf & Country Club from 21 to 23 Apr T15 at its Masters Course. The winner was Lian Ai Hian. The first runner up was Thai Kousuke Hamamoto and second runner up was Lucius Toh. President SGA Bob Tan presenting the trophy to Gregory Foo. 16th Singapore National Amateur Championship he men’s champion was James Leow and Tthe women’s champion was Goh Jen who successfully defended her title. The first runner up was Australian Barry Squires. Jurong Country Club hosted this senior event from 2 – 5 Nov 15. The Overall Champion was Singapore Island Country Club with a total of 32 points.     05/03/2018: Doha Former Qatar Open winner Thomas in Asia-Pacific team Rayhan Thomas, winner at the 2016 Qatar Open Amateur Golf Championship, will return to his favourite hunting Doha Golf Club as member of the Asia-Pacific team which will contest for the Michael Bonallack Trophy here from March 8. Thomas is the lone Indian among the 12-member Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation team announced by Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy selection committee. The three-day event, at the Peter Harradine designed course, will welcome some of the top amateur men and women players and will pit the best of male and female amateur European players against an Asia- Pacific team. The men team will be vying for the Michael Bonallack Trophy while the women be vying for the Patsy Hankins honours in the tournament, which ends on March 11. The tournament will be played in match- play format. The other members besides Rayhan Thomas are Min Woo Lee (Australia), Shae Wools-Cobb (Australia), Takumi Kanaya (Japan), Kazuya Osawa (Japan) Jaemin Han (Korea), Dong-min Kim (Korea), Daniel Hillier (New Zealand), Lloyd Jefferson Go (Philippines), Gregory Foo (Singapore), Sadom Keawkanjana (Thailand) and Kammalas Namuangruk (Thailand). Thomas, who also won the Dubai Creek Open in 2016, besides the Qatar event, had a strong run at the 2017 United States Junior making the semi-final stage and will be hoping to continue his good form at the DGC. Thomas team-mate at the Asia-Pacific team, Min Woo Lee, winner of the United States Junior Championship in 2016 and the 2017 s runner-up at the Australian Amateur and tied for 3rd at the Asia- Pacific Amateur Championship will look to give his best in Doha.

    ASIA-PACIFIC MEN’S TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP (NOMURA CUP) AUSTRALIAN REPRESENTATIVES AND RECORDS The Asia-Pacific Team Championship is conducted by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation and is a biennial competition rotated among the Asia-Pacific region. Each team, which consists of four male players, plays 18 holes of stroke play for four days. In each round, the total of the scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team’s score for the championship. The winning team receives the Nomura Cup, which was named after Shun Nomura, the former Vice-President of the Japan Golf Association who donated the Cup.     SINGAPORE GOLF ASSOCIATION 2013 Annual Report 2013 ANNUAL REPORT (APR 13 – MAR 14) INTRODUCTION Y 2013 has been a good year for SGA by any standard. We did very Fwell to finish in 6th position behind Australia, Korea, Thailand, China and Japan at the 26th Asia Pacific Amateur Golf Team Championship (Nomura Cup) and to achieve a historic 3rd consecutive win over MGA in our annual match. However, FY 2013 was also a year when, despite the strong buildup, we were not able to deliver where it mattered most. Team Singapore could only finish in 4th position at the 27th South East Asian Games behind Thailand, Myanmar and Malaysia.
