French Heritage Museum at the Stone Barn The Lemuel Milk Carriage House, historically known as the Stone Barn, is home to the French Heritage Museum. Illinois Central Depot This two-story red brick depot, a former Illinois Central Railroad station, was built in 1898 to replace the original 1853 wood structure. After years of disuse the city purchased it from the Illinois Central in 1990 and completed a full restoration in 1998. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. Currently the building houses the Amtrak station, city offices, and the Kankakee Find & Explore Railroad Museum.
