He was a Special Assistant to the District Attorney in New York County, Robert Morgenthau, Chief of Staff to the Minority Leader of the Suffolk County Legislature and Chief of Staff to the Assistant Majority Leader of the New York State Assembly. He has a Masters Degree from John Jay College and has taught undergraduate and graduate classes for over 20 years in a variety of institutions in New York City. (20 minutes) Unauthorized Practice of Law III. “I’d love to but I can’t.” (20 minutes) Conflicts of interest 2 Biography of Professor Aicha Cesar, Paralegal Department Chair at Bramson ORT College Faculty Advisor of the Bramson ORT College Paralegal Student Club Professor Aicha Cesar has a BA in French from The College of William and Mary, MA in Social Sciences from Edinboro University, and a JD in Law from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Law School. While studying law, Ms. Cesar wrote an independent legal research project under the supervision of the Honorable Francis Larkin on the repatriation of cultural artifacts. After finishing her undergraduate studies at William and Mary, Ms. Aicha Cesar furthered her studies at L’Universite De Franche Comte in Besancon, France. Ms. Cesar received her training in family based immigration, citizenship, and asylum at Catholic Charities; and business immigration from the Manhattan law firm of Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen and Loewy. She is a specialist and freelancer in legal translation and consecutive interpreting from French to English for asylum and immigration cases and has volunteered her translation services to Sanctuary for Families. Ms. Cesar has given speeches at legal conferences hosted by the New York City Paralegal Association on electronic contracts and political asylum. Ms. Cesar is currently the Chair of the Paralegal Department at Bramson ORT College and is a full time professor for Immigration Law and Procedure at Bramson ORT College. Questions and Discussion (10 minutes) 3 Biography of Professor John Diffley, Chair of the Bramson ORT College Paralegal Department Academic Committee, Faculty Advisor and Coach of the Bramson ORT College Mock Trial Club, Bramson ORT Buzz Newsletter Contributing Writer Professor John Diffley was admitted to practice law in 2006. Upon admission to the bar, he was an associate attorney at a mid-sized Wall Street trial firm. Developing upon long-standing relationships, Mr. Diffley opened his own practice handling a broad range of legal matters both in and out of the courtroom. Mr. Diffley concentrates his practice in civil litigation and transactional real estate. Prior to admission to the bar, Mr. Diffley worked in portfolio management with Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., Inc., as a licensed securities broker, and was a professional sales representative in an international pharmaceutical company.     co bac –fre to e 2015 New York State Dean’s List EXECUTIVE SUMMARY More than 4 out of 10 New York colleges now prohibit smoking on campus Smoke-free (SF) and tobacco-free (TF) campus policies are a growing trend across the country and in New York State. A SF campus policy means no smoking is allowed anywhere on college property or in college vehicles. In contrast, a TF campus policy prohibits all forms of tobacco use, anywhere on college property and in college-owned vehicles, including smokeless forms of tobacco, and in most cases, electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes). Evidence suggests that short-term exposure to secondhand smoke, even outdoors, puts people at increased risk, especially those with pre-existing cardiac and pulmonary illness.3 In addition to reducing exposure to secondhand smoke, SF and TF campus policies help to reduce the initiation of tobacco use among young people and assist youths and adults who are trying to quit smoking.4 Between July 2014 and June 2015, electronic surveys were sent to college administrators at 201 colleges and universities in New York State and analyzed to ascertain current tobacco use policy. High response rates were achieved (83%). If no information was provided by a college, data were obtained via the college’s website. Criteria were then applied to these data to generate a grade for each college. For colleges reporting a SF or TF policy, an additional compliance score was calculated based on several questions in the survey, to produce a plus or a minus grade. The grades and results are as
