Fall 2016 _____________________________________ Current News from Providence Year of the Pioneer The 2015-2016 Pioneer sports season was record setting for the school, with a total of 8 sectional titles and two state championships. Here's a rundown of the spring results: Baseball won its first ever 2A State Championship and the first state title for a boys' program. Girls Tennis won its first sectional since '09 and first regional (beating reigning champ Floyd Central) since '06. Then-freshman Halli Trinkle went on the state semifinals. Boys Golf won its first sectional since 1998. Track sent two runners to state - Then-junior Bayley Wade, who won the 800 meter sectional and regional titles, and then-junior Tyler Ettel, who was 110 meter hurdle sectional champ in his first year in the sport. The 2016 fall season is off to a strong start, with Volleyball ranked #2 in 3A and beating #9 4A New Albany this week. Boys Soccer (4-0-1) is ranked No. 2 in 1A by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association, and Girls Soccer (4-2-1) is ranked No. 14. Boys Tennis is ranked No. 4 in District 8 by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association and recently beat #27 Jasper 3-2. For a complete schedule, click here. Glow Glow Challenge next weekend Alumni 21 and over can take part in a fun game of Glow Golf at Covered Bridge on Sept. 10. Cost is $50 per player and includes one glow golf ball. Upcoming Events at Providence Fall show: The Importance of Being Earnest, a satire based in Victorian England that still draws laughter today as playwright Oscar Wilde makes fun of social norms and high society. Show dates are Sept. 17, 23 and 24 at 7:00 p.m. and Sept. 18 and 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ray Day Little Theatre. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased online, by calling 812-945-2538 ext. 314 or at the box office. Homecoming: Friday, Sept. 16, 7:30 p.m. vs. McCreary Central (Ky.) Class Notes 2012 Maggie Bremmer graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from Ball State University in December 2015. After working as a case manager for the Indiana Department Of Child Services in Scottsburg last spring, she now is a supportive housing coordinator at New Housing Ohio Inc. and a graduate student at the University of Dayton studying clinical mental health counseling/mental health. Cory Costello graduated from Rose-Hulman in May 2016 and now is an associate engineer at ArcelorMittal in East Chicago. Jenna (Carr) Beck graduated from USI with a bachelor's in social work and a minor in Spanish. She married Jamie Beck in June. The couple lives in Evansville. She has worked at Children's Learning Center of Posey County as a teaching assistant and at Home Instead Senior Care - Evansville as a caregiver. Eliza Donahue has spent the summer in her first national tour as a member of the ensemble in Todrick Hal's production of Straight outta Oz. This past spring she was in Legally Blonde (Leilani, H&H salesgirl #1, ensemble) at Derby Dinner Playhouse with Clayton Bliss '11 (Kyle) and Jennifer C. Andres '93 (Elle's mother/Saleswoman/Judge). She continues to pursue her degree in theatrical business at IU Southeast as well. Tyler Ferree graduated in December 2015 from IUB with a bachelor's in business, marketing and operations management. He is now communications manager at Holy Family Church in New Albany. Zack Johnson, a senior at Rose-Hulman, had a hand in building the Lincoln Bridge across the Ohio River thanks to an internship with Walsh Construction last summer. This summer he had an internship with Canadian National Railway. Read more. Casey McCauley graduated from Thomas More College in May 2016 with a degree in criminal justice and corrections. Erin McLeland graduated in May from IUPUI with a bachelor's in exercise science/pre- physical therapy and is now pursuing her doctorate degree in physical therapy attending at Indiana University Bloomington. Kayla Meisner, a senior U of L bioengineering major, spent her summer volunteering with the most needy in India, a trip she planned on her own out of a desire to visit India and also serve, thanks to an admiration for Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Read more. Brenden Popson graduated in May 2016 from the University of Louisville with a bachelor's in electrical and computer engineering. He is now a telecom engineer at Louisville Gas and Electric. Kelsey Rogers graduated in May from Purdue University with a degree in brain and behavioral sciences. She is now pursuing a master's in applied behavioral analysis from Ball State, with plans to become a board certified behavioral analyst. Joe Solis graduated from Purdue in May with a degree in industrial engineering technology and received a commission into the U.S. Air Force as a second lieutenant. He is in Arlington, Va., on an internship at the Air Force Association headquarters and will attend flight school by April 2017. Adrienne Voelker, who graduated from the University of Notre Dame in May with a degree in chemistry and is pursuing a master's degree in food science at Purdue, has published her second article. The most recent one, "Preparation and optimisation of anionic liposomes for delivery of small peptides and cDNA to human corneal epithelial cells," appeared in the Journal of Microencapsulation. Mackenzie Wilson graduated from the University of Dayton with a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology in May. She is pursuing her doctorate in physical therapy at IUB. 2013 Cory Cahalan, a senior marketing major with a concentration in sports at Marian University, spent his summer as an operations support intern at Samtec Inc. in New Albany. He was named an NAIA Academic All-American in June 2016 and has been named to the Dean's List each semester. Reed Fansler, a sophomore industrial and product design major at Purdue, spent his summer in Middleton, Wisc., as an R&D intern for Electronic Theater Controls. Madeline Long, a junior journalism and design major at IUB, is on the Merchandising and Apparel Committee for the Indiana University Dance Marathon, which supports Riley Hospital for Children. Jacob Resch, a senior business major at IUB, has slowly been building his music career while he completes his college degree. His latest music video is actually a short film. The 10-minute film Cali Girl is based on his 2015 song of the same name and was recently accepted in a film festival in Toronto. Read more. Kori Siebert, a senior kinesiology and integrative physiology major with a minor in psychology at Hanover, had an exciting year, first studying abroad in Australia and then in an internship in Miami. Read more. 2014 Katie Chrisco, a junior journalism major at IUB, spent some of her summer traveling to Barcelona, Spain, in a study abroad program focusing on learning Spanish and taking courses toward her Spanish minor. Read more. Dane Copple, a junior at U of L, recently received the Samuel C. Robinson scholarship awarded to a J. B. Speed School of Engineering student through the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana in April and based on academic achievement and need and covers tuition and books. Zach Flanagan had a summer internship at GE in the commercial/sales department. Scott Hoyland, a junior at Notre Dame studying economics and applied math, spent the summer as an unpaid intern working with the Joint Economic Committee through Sen. Dan Coats in Washington, D.C. Christian Huber continued his winemaking education this summer, studying abroad for six weeks in Italy and then working in Napa Valley, Calif. Matt Martin, a junior mechanical engineering major at University of Dayton, spent his summer in a study abroad program in China studying circuits, microeconomics and business ethics in Suzhou, China, near Shanghai. Tanner Mobley, a senior marketing communication major (with minors in anthropology and international studies) and an RA at Bellarmine, spent a summer semester abroad in Germany.
