When I started Best Buddies nearly three decades ago at Georgetown University, I never imagined that this organization would impact the lives of more than 1.2 million people annually with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) across the globe, spanning nearly 50 countries and six continents. This is such a blessing and truly a testament to the power of friendship and inclusion. In 2017, Best Buddies raised nearly $12 million dollars through our national Best Buddies Challenges: Hyannis Port, Hearst Castle, and Miami; enlisted more than 50,000 people to walk for inclusion at Best Buddies Friendship Walks across the nation and opened a new state office in Charlotte, North Carolina, further expanding our services and mission across the United States.
