Built more than three centuries ago, the Masjid, one of the biggest mosques in the country, symbolises the grandest human excellence and collective endeavour of men and animals where 8000 workers and 1400 oxen were in action. The granite was quarried continuously by hundreds of workers while the oxen were constantly at service drawing them to the construction site, a feat aptly chronicled in Hyderabad’s golden history. HISTORICAL PLACE Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah commissioned bricks to be made from the soil brought from Mecca, and used them in the construction of the central arch of the mosque, thus rendering the name to the mosque. Inside the courtyard, a room is also believed to be housing the hair of Prophet Muhammad. The compound also provides asylum to the marble graves of Asaf Jahi rulers. Mecca Masjid stands just a few feet away from Charminar to its south, amid the bustling bazaars of Hyderabad’s Old City. It is also closer to Chowmahalla Palace and lies on the way to Falaknuma Palace from Charminar. With so many places of interest in the neighbourhood including Laad Bazaar and Patherghatti, Mecca Masjid truly depicts the cultural richness of Hyderabad. www.hitex.co.inwww.hitex.co.in 03 3 COO MESSAGE Through POV, I once again am happy doing what I love the most - talk to the esteemed industry representatives, government representatives, corporate fraternity, partners, vendors, sponsors and my Hitex colleagues. As usual, POV captures the essence of the events industry, thereby offering updates and trends informative and engaging. Hitex is pleased to present you the latest issue of POV. It was undoubtedly a spectacular year so far and the latest feather in the cap for Hyderabad is the proposal to install one lakh CCTV cameras all over the city to make us more secure and ensure better management of law and order. To be installed over a period of two years, these closed circuit television cameras would be connected to the state-of- the-art Command Control Centre. These cameras would be located at all strategic and sensitive points of the city enabling a more effective monitoring. 04 Point of View bi-monthly | August 2016 Issue | VOL. 19 There are positive vibes palpable all over the economy with a growing promise of investments to the State of Telangana. All these are set to bring more revenue to Hyderabad and Hitex is proud to be part of the ever growing Brand Hyderabad. Talking about Brand Hyderabad, let me take this opportunity to congratulate Ms. P.V. Sindhu for her exemplary accomplishment in the recent Olympics. A real role model, we hope to see you bring more laurels for the State of Telangana and for the Nation at large. On behalf of Hitex, I wish all of you an eventful season, and a fruitful association! K. V. Nagendra Prasad COO, HITEX www.hitex.co.in 05 HYDERABAD TO GET 1,00,000 CCTV CAMERAS In their effort to make Telangana the safest and most secure state in the country, the Telangana government has planned to install 1 lakh networked closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras across Hyderabad over the next two years. All the cameras will be connected to the proposed Command and Control Centre of the Police, allowing law and order officials to better monitor and control crime in the city. The initiative was taken up by the Police Department of the State, which reported that they will install these CCTV cameras in crowded areas. Elaborating on the program, south zone DCP V. Satyanarayana said that the cameras were being installed at strategic locations throughout Hyderabad. The Old City will be one of the most focused areas, along with other high-interest and high-traffic areas such as Cyberabad, Chowmahalla Palace, places of worship, educational institutions, malls, hotels, railway stations, etc. 06 Point of View bi-monthly | August 2016 Issue | VOL. 19 This initiative will be a first of its kind in the country on such a large scale. The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs. 657 crores over a period of two years, while another Rs. 302 crores would be spent on the Command Control Centre bringing the total to Rs. 959 crores. A part of the financing will be procured from NTPC as the police have signed an MoU with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), to extend fi- nancial assistance of Rs 1crore for installing CCTVs. These funds constitute a share of NTPC’s corporate social responsibility initiative. The one lakh CCTV cameras will be connected to the Command Control Centers at police station level, Zonal DCP office and the proposed Centralized Main Command Control Centre. The Command Control Center will come up at Road No 12, Banjara Hills and will be a 24-story, state-of-the-art facility ensuring round-the-clock international standard surveillance and maximum security in the city. Footage and data from CCTV cameras will be stored and analyzed at the CC Centre, and any offender entering Hy- derabad will be identified immediately. In addition to helping law and order situations, the CCTV Surveillance System will also be helpful to other government departments like roads and buildings, infrastructure, and municipal corporations among others. www.hitex.co.in 07 CONCLUDED EVENTS Hyderabad Kids’ Fair 2016 2nd to 5th June, 2016 Organizer: HITEX The largest kids’ carnival of the country organized by Hitex yet again proved why it is the darling of thousands of young hearts. Alumni Association of Osmania University -Souvenir AlumniAlumni dayday -- 2929 DecemberDecember 20072007 BackBack toto roots...roots... GiveGive backback Vision Farman of H.E.H. Nizam VII 26th April, 1917 “ I am pleased to express my approval of the views set forth in the Arzdasht (petition) and the memorandum submitted there- with, regarding the establishment of a University for the State, in which the knowledge and culture of Ancient and Modern times may be blended so harmoniously as to remove the defects created by the present system of education and full advantage may be taken of all that is the best in Ancient and Modern systems of physical, intellectual, and spiritual culture. In knowl- edge, it should aim at the moral training of the students and give an impetus to research in all scientific subjects. The fun- damental principle in the working of the University should be that Urdu should form the medium of instruction in higher education but knowledge of English as a language should at the same time be deemed compulsory for all students. With this objective in view, I am pleased to order that steps be taken for the establishment on the lines laid down in the Arzdasht (petition) of a University for the Dominions to be called the Osmania University of Hyderabad in commemoration of my accession to the throne”. 2 Alumni Association of Osmania University -Souvenir Alumni day - 29 December 2007 Back to roots... Give back 3 4 PREFACE I am indeed happy that the Osmania University in its onward march of progress has completed 89 years.
