CLEARED BY GHMC The Telangana government has taken a cue from the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and has passed a resolution for the construction of a skyway linking the east and west sides of the Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad. The resolution was unanimously passed by the Great- er Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) approving the skywalk, which will run from Nagole to ORR West and at grade radial road from ORR East to Nagole with a ‘retaining wall’ along the northern bank of the Musi River. The total cost of the project is estimated to be 5,916 crores. The skyway will run for a total distance of 41km, out of which 26km will be completed in the First Phase. Twenty km of the skyway is to be built on the river bed, while the re- maining 6km would run along the banks of Musi. The skyway has been designed to allow vehicles to travel at a maximum speed of 80km an hour. The skyway had been proposed under the state government’s Strategic Road Develop- ment Programme (SRDP). The state government will begin working on various aspects of the project soon, including feasibility studies, land executions, financing, obtaining clear- ances, and calling for tenders. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has already asked for a quick feasibility report on the skyway and the east-west corridor along the Musi. The GHMC has also sought environmental clearance for the project since it is intended to be built on the river bed.
